Virgin Broadband?

hmm so obv im looking for the most suitable bb provider/package for me n ive just been on the website - http://www.top10-broadband.co.uk/ which w00t84 recommended.

i typed in my postcode + old phoneline i used to have. first thing i notice is that it says my line can only support up to 1.5mb

so i did originally want BT but with them im gonna be paying more money than virgin for extra speed which i cant even use. plus the last time i had internet it was with toucan and it ****ed up. toucan blamed it on bt and vice versa so im a bit wary about BT anyway.

so virgin seems the best option but tbh i dont understand how it works does any1 know more about it who can explain plz

Yes don't go with Virgin, they are a bunch of arse holes. There customer service is crap, they love to bill you for things that you don't even have access to and as for there net connection this is a joke - 20MB at a rate of 8MB - Wouldn't really call that a fast connection.

If you do go with Virgin don't sign your contract, as once you do they have you over a barral.

yes there a bunch of terds, i was with them for quite sometime and they managed to screw something up everyweek for nearly 2 years lol

the 20meg connection was very reliable tho it said 20meg and thats what we got but @ 35.00 a month it was to steep for my kind of usage so switched to sky 16meg unlimited for 10.00 per month

my opinion do not go woth virgin mate trust me,

do not go anyywhere near orange

go through sky or another supplier, bt are not to bad but no where near the best

My mates with orange and has been for ages and has had no probs.

but anyway i wont go with virgin then.

id stay away from orange every1 i know that uses it says its ****, i use vriginmedia and have done so for a long time ive never had any major problem i think within the last within the last 12 months its cut off once or twice and that was for about 3 hours a piece oh and i was offline for 7 hours one day but that was cos i moved and they d/c'd it and i was uop and runnin in my new house within an hour of movin all my stuff over

I can speak for V.Media from an old Telewest's customer point of view and I've had very little problem over five years up until the last few months, where their Fair Usage Policy and traffic shaping (or whatever they call it) has taken its toll. At one point I've had my speed on a 4meg line reduced to 56kbs for downloading a HD documentary.

ive been on virgin for years and ive never had a problem, i get my full bandwidth and customer support team is good, you have to be in certain areas for the 20mb lines as they are upgrading slowly, till then you will only get 8mb lines.

been with ntl/ virgin for over 5 yrs ... had no problems til virgin took over .. now outtages are often ... trying to get any sence from customer service is impossible ..as even though i am paying and receiving their BroadBand they say i am not a customer !!! an its over £1 a min to call them

ye ntl were really good (sucky for cable, but good for internet). since they gone virgin the internets always down, its slow, and the cable still sucks.

im on karoo (the only one you can go on in hull), but skys apparently really good. specially if you have their satalite and phone its quite cheap.

Thats very strange, seeing as I live slap, bang next door to my Cable exchange and I still was getting ****ty connection rates from them.

Not any more though since my solicitor threatended to sue them, now have a nice FAT 20MB line being upgraded to 50MB in march/april.

As for those that aint had problems with them, that was when it was Tele/Ntl its changed a lot since then including the sacking of more than 70% of there staff just after virgin took over.

Virgin are really bad.

When they was telewest, they was brilliant. Now there so bad its untrue.

Im on the L package and sometimes m yspeeds are more like the odl 512 speeds. You only get decent speeds at ridicolous times, like early hours, the rest is brought down due to "Fair usage" policy.

I have been reccomended UK Online, not sure on there website, search google.

Distance from the exchange does not effect cable speeds.... ADSL yes, cable no.

This is on a ratio to contention level - you will find that on average each cable back bone has about 50 single back bones which on each backbone as a contention level of about 30. Which means there are 30 people connected to the same backbone as you, oh and guess what you share that speed. Yes you will get faster speeds than jo blogs next door who is on a 8mb line, but thats only due to the software on ur modem.

Oh and by the way I know your not getting your full 20MB cause no one for Virgin gets it - Nothing to do with the lines, its part of there fair usage policy.

u do know if ur not getting th right speed u can rip up ur contract and throw it at them lol its part of it if there not giving u speed ur paying for u can cancel it any time u want

atm i am getting like 2 meg at most checked other day and my line can hold up to 10 meg so going to phone up and ask about it lol

You will look a right knob.

Know the contract you agreed to when you sign up? It states UP TO 10meg.

It also states the "Fair play usage", meaning they can lower your speeds when ever they want.
