This has puzzled me for a while.

when you have a space, you have a certain bandwidth. which decreases when someone downloads data from your site. once your bandwidth has ran out you cant use your space anymore until the next month.

in computing we are told that bandwidth is the rate at which data is downloaded.

these two statements are completely different, so im confused to what b/w actually is?

Bandwidth: The amount of data that can be passed along a communications channel in a given period of time.

Give a real life situation, I don't see what your getting at.

im using a p2p client, trying to recieve a file. the other person has a very low b/w and so it sends slowly.

Think of it as the amount your limited to recieve.

So the amount your able to recieve from web bandwidth 2gig
The amount your able to recieve from a person using all his upload bandwidth .. 30k

Hard to explain.. ah well

The terms are the same, with some minor details.

Your webspace might have 2GB of monthly transfer bandwidth, which is the max amount of information you can download from that site per month.

While your friend may have unlimted transfer bandwidth a month, but his speed for which he pays from his ISP is slow.

Think of it like a car.

The first situation the car can go very fast, but it can only make 2 trips (2GB total, 1GB per trip).

The second situation the car goes very slow, but it can make unlimited trips per month, however it's still limited by it's speed.
