How nice it looks, and what cooling options does it give you, if your into that kind of thing. I'd also try to avoid the really bugget ones, they may have sharp edges, which can be annoying during the building process...

Before you do any buying, make sure you know about the case connectors, how to use them and where they go, and if your motherboard has enough pins to support the case.

More information can be found here, a lot of people are left in the lurch when it comes to connectors, as they just think you can swap any pc to any case.

As long as he gets ATX it doesn't matter.

Well, there are pretty simple things. I mean, i got a crappy Q-Tech case, and have been regretting it ever since. It rattles, doesn't fit properly, and it very flimsy.

My advice is simple. IF you can, get a brand-name. Included power supplies are a good thing, as the fit is guaranteed (I've seen PSU's not fit new cases before). Try to get Aluminium case, and avoid plastic parts which can snap. Think with cooling in mind. Also, if you're a modder, try and get a case with an optional window. It's much cleaner than making your own.

The actual case or case connectors? I was referring to not bothering on being careful to get a case based on if it had the proper motherboard connectors if they are the same format.

Ive got this case :D for my server (mir3), the door on it is a bit flimsyu on it tho. I've broke the clear plastic piece that covers the circular bit on the door so when i open the door on it now it rattles like fcuk. other than that i think its a decent case (got no sharp bits 2 cut ma fingers off) plus i got it with a 500w psu.
