Should GOLD and ITEM sales for real life currency be banned?

With regards to the recent posts about gold selling and item selling :

Let me make this as clear as possible.

Buying/Selling items is done so at your own risk, if anything goes wrong you will not receive help.

Buying/Selling Gold will result in kicks and bans, there is even a line notice about it.
This has always been the case, it is even in the disclaimer thread that is sticked.

Do you really think we would go through all the trouble of coding an anti bot system and also spend time banning gold sellers and bots to then just allow it.

Just give the gold to your guild or mates in the game.

Also use print screen to take screen shots, none of this blurry rubbish

Personally if gold selling is banned on the server then so should item selling for r/l cash. What stops anyone buying an item with the gold they were going to sell and then selling the item for r/l cash.

So a simple poll to see what the rest of the server feels.

Yea, I agree with this. Does seem like a bit of a contradiction when you look at it this way.

Gold selling can be tracked from botting accounts. However item and gold trades occur all the time between guild members when people quit or just get a new item so give their old one to another member. It would be so hard to clamp down on.

This is a great point Double-H, but if both were bannable offences there would be an instant reduction in these sorts of trades and even if there wasn't, anyone trying to make r/l cash within the game and gets caught doing so will be banned. It would be their own fault for breaking the rules.

If these were the rules.

This would clear any uncertainty and make the game better imo.

People always passing old items down etc.

One main issue would be proving and policing it.

This is the reason we say that it is at your own risk. Even if there was an out right ban player will still do it (we all know they will)

I would love to totally ban it but then policing it will become an issue and take time away from working in the server.

Don't believe selling your investment (time) should be a bannable offense. Time is money so why not get a bit back from your investment?

Its a game. Making money out of it is for chavs and slimeballs. You spend your time having fun in a game why should you be given money for this?
We all know theres people level hard to sell chars and if lucky get something else to sell on the way.
People who buy stuff are the problem.
If you havent got time to play the game then why even download it?
