'Mass murder' air terror bid foiled

Police have foiled a major plot to "commit mass murder on an unimaginable scale" by destroying up to 10 passenger jets in mid-air. The targets were flights leaving UK airports to the US.

Anti-terror police arrested 21 people in London, the Thames Valley and Birmingham on Wednesday night as stringent new security measures were imposed on all UK airports.

A ban on hand luggage, along with other checks and precautions, led to chaos at airports, where scores of flights were cancelled and massive queues built up.

Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Paul Stephenson told reporters at New Scotland Yard that the plot was designed to cause "untold death and destruction". He added: "This was intended to be mass murder on an unimaginable scale."

Searches were ongoing at a number of addresses, he added.
Sources indicated that the majority, if not all, of those arrested were British.

Senior sources said the terrorists were believed to be planning to blow up as many as nine aircraft in a simultaneous attack.
The majority of those arrested were understood to be of Pakistani origin.

If i were a terroist - Which i'm not - My plan would have been to make the police aware of plans to blow up aircraft, thus cramming the airports with loads of people ("at Stansted more than 2,000 people are queuing to pass through customs" - BBC), then blow myself up in the queue, it would have been far more effective. This is a great situation, because 95% of the public lose, except Airlines, Shops in the Airport Terminals, and of course Airports.

Shops in Airports will now increase the price of drinks, because its your only option before you go on the plane.

Airlines like Easyjet etc will charge more money for inflight drinks etc.

Other Airlines will increase ticket prices to cover their "meal" costs.

Airport managers profit because their % of the takins increase.

and finally the general public is happy because they not only get to empty their wallets directly into the cash drawer, but anything left can easily and quickly be scouted by an opportunist criminal who with his amazing power (unless he is blind) of sight, can quickly and easily eye your belongings in the clear plastic bag
