Right im off to uni in september so im purchasing a new laptop. Have about £600 (£700 at a push). It needs to be a fairly decent gaming machine as im doing Computer Games Development.

All that i really require for certain is a DVD-RW combo

Links would be appreciated.

i just got back from uni (games computing) and tbh your better off getting a desktop for home laptops r too much hassle at uni, spend £500 on a new one and spend other 100 on getting net + first few months.. got mine at start of uni 4 years ago and it still running software apps such as c++,opengl, max studio fine

I'm after the same sort of laptop, but I'm looking for something that'll play Half-Life 2 without any problems and thats it.

But I'm also looking for something stylish aswell as functional, and I have quite a bad budget seeing as my bursary was **** all.

@ Auron: I have a laptop from Novatech and the aftersales support has been great. My laptop is has been in a lot recently to their office wherever that is due to first a HDD failure, then a wireless card problem. Both times I phoned, it was picked up the next day, delivered to them the day after, worked on the next day. delivered to me the next and I expecting it back on Monday. You get 1 years warranty I think but you could opt for 3 years, which is the duration of your university course ;o

I actually meant for slightly more serious problems, eg, thunderflies in the screen, keypad wear & tear, display lifepan, etc.

It's those little things you never even think about that are ****ers :P
