Try use C4D's. Don't use the wave filter (on square option) unless your opicity is done on that layer.

yeah im confused as to what C4D's are (looked at tutorials and still dont get it)
and i wasnt going for that effect, that square effect was just done by mosiac tool. theres a few brushes used, a few soft light layers, and an overlay layer.
heres the effect i want, but no idea how to do it, and searching 'squares' gets me nothing.

The first one is Filter > Distort > Wave > Setting on Squares.

finally found how to do the squares. heres what i came up with. still not perfect, but its getting there i think. thoughts?
looks good, your squares look better then the 1st ones u posted what u was trying to copy

nah not really, its just the only font ive downloaded, and always used to use :P
same goes for the pixel font, the pixel border, and the final fantasy render :P all just quick things i have to had. its the background i concentrate on really.
