if you wana change to athlon ul need a new socket a motherboard so i sugest you stick with intel.

64mb gefore 4 mx440 (very cheap but very good price) around 40 quid

can get a 2.0ghz p4 400mhz for about 80-100 quid

and at my local store the upgrade from a 40gb hd to 60 gb is only 7 quid so i suggest going with a 60gb hd at around 50-60 quid (7200rpm)

ah but what about the ram? and also 400mhz?!?! abit slow aint it not?

Who said anything about 400Mhz? He said 2.0 GHz mate. :)

EDIT - Ah I see what you mean now. Well 400MHz is to do with somethin else.. I aint too up-to-date with these new processors. Still wrapped up in my old one. lol :P

But the main speed that you are thinking of is 2.0GHz for the processor he is talking about.

Heres my suggestion

New Motherboard Socket A x8 agp $50-80
AMD Processor processor $50-100 Depends how fast you want
512mb DDR 2700 Ram $50-70
Geforce FX 5200 or ATI Radeon 9200 $70-100
Case fan $10-20
400W Power Supply $20-50

This is the kinda of upgrade I did and it runs like a dream and I had basicly the same system as you.

Personaly i suggest u go pentium not athlon, pentium has a circuit in it where if ur processors fan ****s, the computer stops, therefore saving ur processor. Whilst a athlon will keep running when overheated, and it will not only kill itself but the motherboard to go with it!

well i know thats not true with the amd opterons, as ive seen it first hand. but that shouldnt be someone's determining factor in upgrading
