Elemental Resistance - How does it work?

Just curious but how exactly does the elemental resistance stat work?

Damage = (DC-MR)/(ElementResistancex10)

Or is it

Damage = (DC-(ElementResistancex10))-MR


Or something totally different? I'm trying to work out what to go for with my pet on my warrior, I've had 4 lightning, 5 wind, 4 fire and 10% crit and I've stayed with fire for now hoping to reduce damage enough in Lair to not gimp my kit going pure MR but will it pay off or is the reduction too low?

DC - MR then divide by Ele Resistance %

Example DC 200 - MR 100 = 100 / 50% Ele Resist (MAX) = 50 Damage
