So I have read over opinions on sockets | slots | whatever you want to call them.
What is a socket?
A socket allows a gem/fragment/slotitem to be placed into it, to enhance the item further.
What are peoples issues?
Currently it seems that any re-rolling mechanic that also enables socketing feels very unsatisfying as the sockets should be hard to come by, not to buy your way to them with a re-roll style system; or using orbs to roll the item until it gets the socket(s).
What we're doing?
We feel sockets are still a good feature to have, it allows for some really unique customization (going for farming kit, more damage, defensive ect).
Sockets can only ever be attained from drops.
This means if you get a 3 socket item (max sockets), it'll always have some value, as you can only get this type of added stat from the initial mob drop (and no other way),
Accompanying this with our quality orb system, will mean that even lower tier gear with 3 sockets can fetch a pretty penny as you can quality the item to mythic/godly while retaining all 3 sockets.
Feedback::
Just curious to if people think this is a valid use and fair way to implement sockets, as it will all be in the hands of drops (obviously the higher tier kit is less likely to drop with 3 sockets meaning any socket on higher tier gear increases the value)
