I recall reading some comments about pple being stranded with ghost characters when their buddy stopped playing. Probably if your buddy stops playing, he needs to pass the char back to you.
Maybe the problem was when someone tried to open and play older saved game that was saved in multiplayer mode, something like that.

As to myself, I started playing but only got on the beach. Its not just not having time for playing, the game combat is rather involved to put it mildly and while I have some past experience with turn base combat, here it didn't prove adequate. The learning curve is steep, it doesn't help much to play on the lowest difficulty setting since you still need to figure out basic combat mechanics and char settings.

Yes you can have up to 4 people playing each controlling a character or two controlling 2 each or one controlling 1 and the other controlling 3 etc.

I only watched some YT video where playing as Dark Urge (Durge) is billed as the best story line. Apparently it is not much played because pple don't have guts to be that evil but the argument is that you can resist being (fully) evil and that then makes it the best storyline, game experience.

Also, if others join your group as coop, can't they then play sort of independently, even fight PvP?
