Same age my self, same situation, but I didnt touch Mir after the offical closed. Then new I needed to play it again, so logged back into LOMCN, was told all about chronicles, loved the sound if it, so started mir all over again, that was 2020 till chronicles closed its gate. Then I haven't look at mir since, as I've spent about 9 month's on and off in hospital since the end of 2024. I am now thinking about looking at a server to play

Legend Of Mir 2 Oblivion Server Owner
Project69 has definitely got to be the longest, most well thought planned out server.
I remember bouncing from 5 different high rates that all closed down and always still had P69 to fall back on.
Eventually I built a nice (At the time) level 65 warrior, then up to 103, and quit when it got stupid and bad in the 2020's.
There was always PK, plenty of kit options, a quest to do and a rare to find with perfect matching maps.
Sadly, I don't think it's going to last much longer now, it needs a full redesign (The perfect mir pressent).
I think as you mentioned with WoW it's only fun in the element much like Diablo was but the buzz died out.
Personally I've had servers for years, mainly all high rates across the different files 1.4, 1.9, 2.3 and most recently Crystal.
I've just tried & failed with a highrate called Tatsunuko Rises, we lasted for 9 months.
Soo, having all the fun stuff, the kit and caves from a HighRate - that's now made a PERFECT low rate called Oblivion.
Keep your eyes peeled for the release - E.T.A May 1st (Done my best to replicate P69's success so far).

RageZone 1.9 Lr/Hr will always be the best server i ever played, back in the simple days, Chrons deffo not far behind

on topic for servers ragezone 1.9 was probably the server i've had the most fun on, although i did prefer the old 1.4 files

Hahaha, if you didn't hack somebody on p69 as a child you've not lived.
I once landed a RedMace, a Lion and a WarrSpec from an Egyptian Prince.
Was cool as beans and then I jetted off to Turkey #2009 ish lol
