Using my own PC the game starts and runs like a dream but when using my old laptop the launcher runs fine but when it comes to running the actualy WoooL.exe it tries to load and then just stops, application doesn't show at all. Tried running the .exe itself as admin, tried using the launcher as admin. Kind of stuck on what else to try could possibly be some .net frameworks i need to install but I'm unsure which ones or even if that would be the issue?

Laptop is nothing special spec wise, ASUS Vivobook 17, running windows 10. I'm eligible to install windows 11 but it's apparently not ready to be installed and they will alert me when it is.

Any ideas how I can sort this needing my WoooL fix when I'm at my mrs gaff lol.

Seems the only version of .net I hadn't installed was 4.8, installed it and still no joy.

I had the same kind of problem launching a game on a PC that I reinstalled windows 10 on it and the game ran OK on it with previous win10. I was reinstalling all supposed required supporting files and ran as admin and tried compatibility.... but in the end, it turned out I needed to update nVidia video driver.

The video looked OK, display had recommended resolution and all that but the driver was old, the stock one that came with win10 and the game exe would labor a bit and not run.

Your problem might also be that the laptop uses video driver like Intel onboard graphics whereas your PC has nVidia and you might be out of luck on that count, even if you update the video driver. Some laptops like many desktop PCs might have dual video, use Intel onboard for light use and switches to nVidia for heavier graphic use and Onyx might not be able to 'ask' for use of nVidia graphics and may need some manual intervention. Something to look into.

Installing DirectX Runtime & SlimDX Runtime was the solution, unfortunately I even tried to install windows 11 manually and this low spec laptop didn't handle it well so I reverted the Windows 11 and installed DirectX Runtime & SlimDX Runtime and voila, we have working WoooL again, buzzing!

@mir2pion I had also tried the compatibility route, graphics settings etc nothing worked but this has fixed it.

Thanks for the input both of you!

You reverted back to win10? I will stay with win10 LTSB that will have support many years yet, tried win11 and went back. If it wasn't for mir games, I'd have alrady switched to Linux, this place mods Linux for Windows pple, all ready to go with fewest problems. All my windows since XP came from the folks around this forum.
Aye mate, I reverted back to windows 10, it's some version of AtlasOS I used to use for CSGO/CS2 on my PC that I also installed on this laptop as its basically barebones and modified to mainly focus on lower latency, doubt it'll make much difference on this laptop for mir but I noticed the difference in competitive FPS games on my PC.

Never heard of LTSB version just looked it up. If you're curious about AtlasOS have a look here AtlasOS or https://atlasos.net/

LastOS brand for many years now focuses not on barebones to speed OS up, it keeps all essential stuff that pple want and only removing the modern garbage stuff that MS puts into windows (MS telemetry and such like stuff). While that does speed things up, the speed is not the motivation. The idea is not barebones but wide compatibility, so that everything works for everybody.

LastOS hallmark is unattended installation of winOS as well as a large slew of apps post install. You can choose to point user folders as well as those apps installation to D drive, so your personal data as well as those apps are right there, not needing to be reinstalled after each next fresh windows reinstall.

With Win11 being the multimedia trash it is, LastOS moved to Linux, again making unattended installs and everything configured with base apps included. There is also a LastLinuxStore (LLStore) that installs 'in-house' packaged programs (those include warez programs) as well as provide access into the usual Linux stores that each distro offers because using those Linux stores directly can be challenging for new Linux users.

IMO LastLinux editions are the best for windows folks to move to Linux. There are other such efforts, like Zorin Linux but that one is proprietary, their aim is sort of like Apple to hold its users captive in exchange of dumbing things down for them. LastOS LastLinux keeps things compatible and in step with Linux development and just makes it ready to be used without the usual Linux problems that pple moving from Windows have. LastLinux includes warez programs which hurts its acceptance by the Linux community but that is great for the rest of us.

Many native Win apps can be installed under Wine that also comes installed and configured to take computer science out of it. It successfully ran mir3d server, it might run the client as well but the test computer didn't have disk space for it. I will try to promote work on making mir2 server/client compatible but many programs we use around here to work on things around mir games still require windows, hence the W10 LTSB, LongTermSupport till 2029 I think. Not that I care about support, I write this on W10 2016.
