Have you installed any new hardware recently? or software?

I found that when i had this problem, it was caused by my CD-RW drive which i had recently installed. It wasn't until i formated my PC and installed the drivers for the CD-RW that i stopped getting the blue screen.

I've installed adobe photoshop? and it was a downloded and cracked copy. Bellow is what it says when i get the blue screen, i cant format my computer because... 1 dont have a cd ..dell didnt provide one. and 2 im loosing alot of stuff ... (and on the problem below it says maybe its low memory, i have 120gb free just checked.

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Well, i can onlk suggest uninstalling PS, and then see how stable your system is. If the problem still occurs, then you knwo its not PS and you can reinstall it.

Also run virus/spyware checks etc...

sounds like a boot sector virus, i had something like that once i had to set jumpers on my motherboard to reset it then upgrade the firmware.

at a guess i would say something is in your shadow memory ????

You DONT have 120GB of memory left, believe me! I would reccomend you try some other RAM sticks, but as you think that you already have 120gb of memory, i wouldn't open the case if I was you. Maybe get a techy friend to put a spare RAM stick in.

I'll dig around some websites and see if i can find some info for ya.

could have been in the crack you used and all it needed was for you to restart your computer for the virus to take effect. i really need to start writing down my solutions when i fix them because i had this exact same problem and i fixed it jsut cannot remember how, very annoying

If its everytime you run a processor/memory intensive program, it could be/have been overheated. Try cleaning the air vents out any mebbe put a fan blowing in though any holes in the case!

1: it he means free space on his pc it is possible to have 120GB left if like me he has a 200GB harddrive...

2: its not blue screen of death as thats compleatly diffrent... this just sounds like a hardwear problem, all i can surgest is doing a System Rewind if this don't work i'd say get Norton Home Security 2007

hope this helps, u need any more give me a pm

I was joking about the memory thing, I knew exactly what he meant. and this screen is often now referred to as the BSOD because the real BSOD doesnt really come up that often on XP. And like dan said, open up system restore (that is what you meant, right?) And restore to a previous date, this probably work if its software related

would it possibly be a Bad Sector on the HDD? Try CHKDSK /r in recovery console of your XP CD

Ya could try flashing the BIOS (well not quite) by unplugging the power lead, removing the side of the case, looking for a little round silver battery (
cmos+battery.gif
, taking it out (little flat screwdriver helps), removing the memory stick(S) (
images
and then restart the computer - if it says loading default values, press the button on the keyboard which corresponds to the "Continue" message on screen (probably F1 or F2)

-Dan

Nvidia geforce 7900

And i think the problem is solved lol, i downloaded bug doctor, fixes like 512 errors (it said that it found). Then next time when i restarted the pc went in that mode where it performs a scan by itself, then i got lots of file recovery's. Anyways its been like 2 hours now and my pc hasnt restarted. Thanks for help though guys
