Connecting to a server online

i currently have a router, which seems to have the ip of 198.168.1.2 - ethernet port 1 (think this is default for most routers) and which is the ip I connect on mir with. But what IP would I use, or other ppl wud use if they was connecting from a completely differnet PC ?

i have tried my ip address (whatsmyip.org) and that doesnt seem to work, any ideas ???

i take it u didnt read the bit tht said hes tried 'whatismyip.org' and it didnt work..

r setting it up over ur router, then u need both ur internal and external ip address in the server ur internal (router ip is 198.168.1.2 to me this seems wrong, i though all internal ips (from router) started with a 192.168.*.*)

there is a guide on here for setting it up which explains which one goes were.

to gain ur ip address more accuratly u can do 1 of 2 things.

Start > run > CMD > ipconfig / all

this will display all of ur ips,

u can also do

start > control pannel > network connections > then double click ur current connection type to the net, then click the second tab at the top right, then click details.

again this will bring up all of your internet ip's and gateways

You also need to forward your ports of your router, learn how to do this here http://portforward.com/routers.htm

2.3 files online setup


dbserver folder serverinfo txt file

internal ip your external ip 7200 (space inbetween each entry)

Gamegate folder config file

Login server folder - addrtable txt file

Diamond Diamond 127.0.0.1 your external ip your external ip:7100

(change server names to yours , change internal ip to yours)

M2server folder

runaddr txt file

your external ip

servertable txt file

; Followings have to be arrayed by server no.
;server no. connect-addr port
0 external ip 7200


this will get the server online, all the other ips in the files need to be set to your internal ip, 127.0.0.1 or 192.168.*.* if on a router or left alone if they display 0.0.0.0

for lan playing you need the files above to have your internal ip on them 192.168.*.* and ports wil still need to be forwarded , for lan play the client mir2.exe will need the internal ip in its config / ini files.

hmm ok il give that ago but i have already tried config/all in cmd and am just getting this, it doesnt actually give me my proper IP

198.168.1.2 is your proper I.P
well, it's your internal one. That's what mine says and i can get a server online and can connect to others without any problem.
anyway, here's the guide that helped me. best guide ever tbh
NOTE: i did not write this guide and take no credit for it.

this is so easy unlike other guides all u have to do is

go in to your router options go to Virtual Server forward these ports 7000,7100,7200,3000 to ur local ip witch can be found by doing this start > All programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.

type ipconfig/all look thought it and find ip address and thats how u find your local ip.

your global ip can be found here www.whatismyip.org

then go thought your server change all the ips to Your Local ip then goto

C:\mirserver\DBServer

open !serverinfo.txt
change from what u got to this

[Local ip] [Global ip] 7200 [Local ip] 7200

then goto C:\mirserver\LoginSrv
open !addrtable.txt
change from what u got to this

;No space allowed
;Server Title Remote Public Gate...
[Server Name] [Server Name] [Local ip] [Global ip] [Global ip]:7100

then goto C:\mirserver\M2Server
open !runaddr.txt

change from what u got to this

[Global ip]

then open !servertable.txt
changefrom what u got to this

hehe =) just a question actually why where on the subject of ip's i want to run and FTP from my computer, when i try it, its giving me the ip of 192.168.1.2 and i can connect to it fine on this computer, but .. when anyone else tries to connect to the ftp, they just get "page cannot be displayed" any ideas to how i left it open all i know is FTP is ports 20 - 22 right ?

judging by the image u posted before, 192.168.1.2 is ur router ip address, and im sure for this it requiers ur external ip address, maybe some 1 will read and cofurm this for me, but im sure thats how its done

have allowed the ports to be opened in your router settings (usually a website u config them on) u need to allow ports 7000 - 7300
