Web hosting

Ive been thinking of starting a little web hosting company that will target the mir private server community. By saying that the hosting will be cheap as I know running a server can be very expensive.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this, what sort of price they would be willing to pay and what features specs they would want for their money?

Obviously just looking if the market is there for this, not really looking to make money from it, if I can break even on what I spend to help the community then i'll be willing to put the time and effort in.

Unless you can compete with netfirms, I don't think it's worthwhile.

As Sawell said in that thread, be careful of oversellers. Netfirms will have in some tiny little writing the real specs for each machine, and it will probably be written in the terms of service that you can not host anything that could overwhelm the servers. You might be all well thinking 'I have 1Tb of bandwidth', but if Netfirm deem your site it to be slowing their servers they will just cut you off.

Plus I was thinking, with the main aim to be helping the community, not everyone is experienced with websites and how they work. So I would be willing to offer support on a 1 to 1 level with any clients, say for instance, installing a script.

Come up with some provisional packages, just so people could get an idea of what I could offer, they could change depending on demand.
