Put sensitive toothpaste directly onto the tooth if you have any, aside from that depens on the reason. Ive had a tooth crack and then in inside basically became hollow and required a root canal, it was ****ing maddening. Only way I could calm it was by putting bonjela/sensitive toothpaste into the massive hole in my tooth.

Dab some oil of cloves onto the tooth and root, that should ease the pain for a few hours. Just reapply when required.

Oil of Cloves can be bought at most chemist's or health food shops.
