-What would make you want to play OldSkool?

I did make a rather long post regarding this topic on that Servers thread but it was closed by the time I had finished typing it, thus I lost what I had typed. This post is much simpler and gets to the heart of the situation, the main problem with OS. But you don't care about this problem.

Theres no point mentioning donations, or usin that as an excuse, end of the day, servers cost money to run, majority of servers have donations now if its ever gonna go ne where

donations = a stable lifespan, you know the dedi PC is goin to be paid for for a long time and servers gonna stay up

end of the day, all donateable items are in drop files, and they aint impossible to get, eg, as i said on another post.... 3 mafia items droped past few days, and they cost a fair bit to donate for.


So whats so bad about donations? Other than keepin the game free, and on a good dedicated server....

1] Simple fact that almost everybody is high level with ownage kits. Can't go anywhere without getting PK'd and nobody helps out with cash or tips as of where to level/hunt at the start, 1 of the reasons I quit.

2] The corrupt Screen Shots ive seen from more than 1 Person + IP Ban for no reason.

I don't like the "feel" of it, i hate the gamble place for pets etc. Server is just too big, i'd prefer if you cut like 50% of the junk out

No high levels go to low level boss's... wots the point? they dont drop high level items, so no... you dont get pked, and low level levelin areas have restrictions on them now.
Why do you need tips on where to level? Tele npc practically tells you where to level, and if you want cash... go hunt for it? not hard to get

you obviously havnt been ingame for a long time then... not many use gamble pets ne more, unless low level

high levels have pets they can buy instnatly

server isnt too big, wot u mean by too big exactly... too many areas? dont see how thats a bad thing

If ur talkin about all the NPCs for different teleports... all has been combined into 1 NPC now, bare 1 or 2 caves

Donations an excuse? Sure, I use it all the time. I don't have my homework because of... donations. Seriously.

Yes donations create stability. Thats all they do for a server.
The who point of mir nowadays is competition.
People play to compete.
A competition should be fair.
Being able to use your abundance of wealth to further yourself in a time less intend by the server is not fair.

Yes. All the items are avaliable for the poor.
It takes much longer to level.
It takes alot longer for an item to drop.
Than paying by credit card.
Then factor in all this 'trying' to level and 'trying' to gain items being obstructed by players who have used daddys credit card to level and kit up. Its hard. Its annoying. Its why I dont play anymore.

No matter how hard you try there is no competing with donations.
I mean come on even fubu and Canner had to use a GM for a decent chance at beating donators. Thats saying something.

Like always I won't expect you to listen because I know what running a servers like. Your reason now is purely money. I get it. I'm sure if I had a donation system in place on any of my servers they would still be running today rather than going down after a month, because I would have a reason to care. I would of had a reason to put up with abuse from teenagers, to continue to update. Plus i'd be alot wealthier.

I'm sure a part of you wants to create a great gaming experience.
But a bigger part of you cares about that money, not for 'stability' but for youself.

theres loads of ppl ingame that havnt donated, and got a good kit..... ellmo has full mafia kit almost, he didnt donate or exploit

end of the day tho....... you cant have a successful server w/o donations

I get it. Nowadays donations are needed for success.
But on OS it came to a point where is just wasn't enjoyable not standing a chance against all the OS kits that were bought, especially when only a few single items had dropped and were spread around individuals and not on the same person. Alots probably changed since I played though lol.

Maybe I shall take this into account next time I plan to venture into server making.

tbh i don't know why people are calling it "donations" anymore, its not donating, its buying and selling pure and simple. Donating is giving money and not expecting anything in return.
People dislike the idea of someone new joining and buying their way into the server gaining an advantage over regulars without lifting a finger or putting in the hours nessasary for that rare item or level.

Im not siding with anyone, as i understand bills need to be payed etc
but the reason servers like p69/MR/OS recieve bad reputation over this is because that line between donations and buying/selling items has been crossed.

i would go as far to say as buying & sellling has been made a must for any new server or even old to succeed against todays competetion.
a server thats buys and sells, will be able to afford a better connection, where as those who dont, will lose members as soon as they get the slightest lagg.

There should be a poll or something weather donation servers should be allowed to post on LOMCN or not. Because the admins are beinding the rules like no tomorrow and its kinda stupid at the end of the day.

Well a lot of the higher level kits are similar stats to stuff like OS now, so if ur not rich, put the effort into levelin, and gettin the high levels for the kit. ur obv still aint gonna get em as fast as donaters... but its still do-able

this is wot i mean tho, if u want server to have a good non lag dedi, donations have to be made.... loads of MMORPGs have it free to play, but are able to pay for items.... loads are able to buy their way to the top, with little effort... does it stop 1000s of ppl playin these games? no.

even WoW, that has millions of users, you could ebay your way to the top, yes its illegal, but ive seen loads of ppl get awya with it

euro mir, again illegal but ppl bought their way to the top, i used to get annoyed when i worked hard for my items, then some1 like bullpit just bought abit of ebay gold and outbided u.... but thats LIFE deal with it im affraid

zen2 hacked the ID/Pass database, or fubu gave to him, i dont know... i wasnt around when this happened, i wasnt in charge of OS, i had real life issues and foolishly gave server to fubu to look after who i thougth i could trust, and look how that turnt out

so wots ur next excuse pls?

Thats rediculous. He asked for opinions, and donations is a valid opinion. You tell us not to play them if we don't like donations, did you even read the title of this thread? Bon has actually put a pretty good argument in for why he has donations, theres no need for that post.

My reasons :
Donations : I understand why they are there, I don't blame you, but personally I don't like to play anything where I need to donate to compete, P2P I dont mind.
Wils : I can't play a server with such messy wils, it should be kept to just euro wils and a few other good looking stuff, repeat some if you have to.
