intel core 2 duo e7300 (wolfdale-3m) i want to clock this from 2.6 to 3.0.

would this effect the life span of the cpu.

pc been on 24 hours core temp 1 is 45c and 2 is 35-37 , is that good?

if i clocked what temps would i wanna keep under , the heatsink atm is a standard intel ( its a circle heatsink about 2-3cm thick) if this heatsink is **** what heatsink would u advice?

just want some advice , i have 4gb of ram , forspink sending me another 4gb soon ( even though i dont need but he did me 8gb cheap as chips )

it always seems its my cpu running at 100% ( although i do bot runescape accounts lmao ( sad i know) but even with 1 bot running the cpu is constantley maxing out but jack said his quad core was running v high with 1. Is this normol?

edit : people on the botting forum with quite abit worse specs then me and there cpu aint nowhere near 100% , could my dodgey copy of windows 7 be memory leaking somewhere or something ( iam a noob).

thanks in advance

sure it will.. everything depends on the voltage you will be using to power the cpu and how many MHz you are trying to push out of it.. if your pushing the E7300 from 2.6 to 3.0 forever and use it in default like this i guess that you will be lowering it's life span for about 1/8 of it's total life.. even less if you manage to fix the cpu issue you are getting

pc been on 24 hours core temp 1 is 45c and 2 is 35-37 , is that good?

usually core 1 on the E7300 has higher temp, what tool have you been using for mesuring? have you tried RealTemp?

if i clocked what temps would i wanna keep under , the heatsink atm is a standard intel ( its a circle heatsink about 2-3cm thick) if this heatsink is **** what heatsink would u advice?

i would rather stay under 70°C but since this will also impact onto the life span probably changing the heatsink will be a good idea.. i would look for a zalman 9700 or something like this.. if you can stay on 3.0GHz with temps around 50°C on core 1 and 45°C on core 2 then life span wouldn't grow too much.

just want some advice , i have 4gb of ram , forspink sending me another 4gb soon ( even though i dont need but he did me 8gb cheap as chips )

not sure how other 4gigs can help you.. if you memory isn't nothing special don't expect to higher too much the cpu speed.. surely i think you can reach 3.0GHz with no problems..

it always seems its my cpu running at 100% ( although i do bot runescape accounts lmao ( sad i know) but even with 1 bot running the cpu is constantley maxing out but jack said his quad core was running v high with 1. Is this normol?

have you tried to update the bios of your motherboard?
can u use cpuz to give all the screenshots of all your components?

thanks for the post , i dont know much about pc's. how could i update the bios.

neway people on forum said with descent pcs each bot dont use more then 10% , i turned down all the runescape settings from cpu usage : very high to very low. this has helped the cpu isnt maxing out but still in the 85-95 , with 3 bots ( like 70% with 2 )

hope this helps.

thanks alot.

your cpu maxing out is probably down to the windows media network.

open up your resources manager and sort the overview of the cpu by cpu.

task manager -> performance -> resource monitor

i think the proccess running is called wmpnetwk.exe and will most probably be at about 70-90. either disable the network sharing in windows media player, suspend the proccess or remove media player.

then get another music player and mpcstar (another video file player, this has vertually every codec needed to play any kind of file).

try going to http://support.asus.com/
in the download section, choose drivers for motherboard with socket775 and motherboard name is P5Q SE Plus.. after choose windows 7 and download the latest bios which i saw is the 2204 and download the bios utility.. run the utility and update the bios to the lastest using the bios you have downloaded..

u will need to unzip the bios in order to update.. and it will be usefull if you same the .rom bios inside the folder containing the application to update the bios.. try this and let's see if it lowers the cpu

i checked afodus needs to be booting onto a floppy or bootable cdrom or pendrive..

do you have a floppy drive and a floppy disk available on your pc? just asking because i didn't get one for my latest pc so maybe it's the same for you?

well.. if you have a floppy disk.. put it in your pc and format is using explorer..
when you choose format place a tick in the box saying that you want a autobooting msdos disk (something like this).. and format the floppy disk.. then place the afodos.exe inside it and in the same place the filebios.rom.. make sure the .rom file as an easy name.. for this example call it bios.rom

then restart your pc with the floppy disk inside.. it should boot from it automatically.. if not tell me so that we will set the bios to start from the floppy..

then it boots you will see msdos with a a:\> line awaiting for instructions..

you will need to type:
afudos /iNAMEOFBIOSFILE.rom
in this example you will need to type
afudos /ibios.rom

make sure you put the /i.. it is not a typing error of mine..

then it will start overwriting your bios with the latest one.. just be carefull because if it is stormy and light goes off while you are updating the bios you will have to throw away your motherboard..

then i suppose it is fine.. but personally i wouldn't overclock if my cpu run all day over 60% of usage.. it's your choice anyway but this is what i think tbh.. i personally have my home gaming pc with a E8400 which is a standard 3GHz cpu running at 3.8GHz.. but i decided to higher this much only because the pc is on just a few hours per week so i don't bother lowering it's life span..

if you choose to overclock anyway.. maybe just a little bit (untill you reach your ram limit) then tell me so i can try to give you some hints..

have you already tried to look your bios settings?

looking at your specs i suppose that you could overclock quite well.. probably your limit might be in the ram or in your motherboard specs.. the cpu is quite strong instead.. i guess that if you don't want to overvolt your components you can get from 2.6GHz to 2.9GHz quite easily.. this should still be a value which won't reduce much the life span of the cpu but it will surely higher the temps if the cpu runs high all the day..

both of you have good components.. let's say shady has slightly better ones because i prefer asus and intel.. not sure what motherboard qautor has because he didn't write it..

anyway amd is also well but i personally prefer intel.. i had both for a long while and intel always has this slight more power in everything.. even if the clocks are the same..

Yo, pretty old post i know but here my 2 cents for you.

With that mobo + the E7300 you should be able to push 3GHz without even thinking of touching the volts, even on stock HS. Best place to start.. leave everything on AUTO and try a 300 FSB which will take you to 3GHZ solid.. and should be easy on stock Volts. If it doesnt boot and is stable, try a 333 on x9. Either one should work flawless.. and as your not upping any volts wont shorten the life on the CPU much if at all. Yes the extra temp " may " shorten it a touch but if you even upgrade to a Arctic 7 cooler it will sort the temps out fine for you.

I have a Asus P5K and E7200 running 3.6GHZ @ 1.43v with lower temps than your getting @ 100% on stock HS using a Zalman 9700 in an Antec 300 w/ 2x CoolerMaster front intake / stock back/top Antec fans on Med setting and a Sythe Kaze going full pelt on the side panel.. Its a bit breezy round the toes but the temps are awsome ( also using top exhaust as Zalman exhaust fan ).

Here are my BIOS setting + screen shots. might help you out a bit.

P2020008.jpg

P2020009.jpg

My CPU seems to have a wall @ 400 for FSB, can boot in up to 450 but not stable regardless of voltage + tweaking.

Also :P i think ive got the best deal on a pc here =D

PC in my spec has cost me roughly... £150 since i sold all my old part and got these ones haha.. so not actually spent a lot on it =D. Apart from Case+Fans are new.
