One does not simply click a button and negate a DDoS attack, or a DoS attack for that matter. I assure you they will have been banging their heads since 7pm trying to determine what exactly is happening and considering all the options for progressing past it. They cannot update you with information they do not have. In this current situation I would imagine that they need to either buy some protection or move to a provider that already has protection. If they move to a new provider then they will surely have some time intensive work to do in order to configure it and get it ready for live. I suggest you step back and wait for them to post which will probably be in the early afternoon tomorrow as they are probably ****ing shattered.
they have done the intentsive work, moving servers was always just a case of:
find server <-- seems like they have already
wait for hosting company to configure <--I assume we are at this stage
unzip the copy of the files <-- 1-2 minutes
move in the database<--1-2 minutes
find and replace on the IP address <- 1-2 minutes
update patcher <--1-2 minutes
make forum post. <--1-2 minutes
the actual work involve in moving servers isn't massively labour intensive from what i recall you just need to be prepared.
my suggestion would be to have all the files required in a position ready to download directly to the new server.
either that or we just wait this thing out. If the plonker that's running the attack is spending money on it, let them bankrupt themselves, the hosting company shouldn't charge for a service they cant provide and at the moment they aren't providing a service.
I've, know several scoprions in my time, (1) pked my wife on her very first visit to the bw pot shop on her first ever time playing an online game {took me 8 months to get her interested again!} (2)one that used to play on my server to kiss my bum (3) one that used to help out on MR that i really stuggled to get on with but wouldnt mind fiind out how they are doing!
You might be one of those 3 you might not, im assuming you have nothing to do with the attack (you'd either have to be really silly or really brave to come posting if you were lol) and its just people that are putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5, Whenever i hear of ddos attacks my first thought is always lapta he used to get one of the gm/mods too do it (was the guy from egypt >.< cant remember his name now >.< and dont want to write a random name and damage someones reputation.) and he didnt back down from launching the attacks again mine and the wifes servers when we were relaunching.
you have to remember the difference in these situations - some of us run (or ran) servers for the love of it and to try and provide a fun place for people to play (regardless of personal preference), people like lapta and those that launch attacks to stop others enjoyment are just plain sad, they are virtual bullies relying on other peoples efforts to further their own and chance are they dont have much to fulfill themselves in the real world and have to take it out on others online.
anyway thats the end of the babbling.
didn't vBulletin forums have an arcade module that could be installed? could we possible have that installed and have a couple of challenges (e.g top score in xxx game gets 1k gold when the server is up - nothing major just silly little time passers which will buy a few pots when we get on

)
@Samual
if you havent already placed an order with a server company - we used to use
www.clanplanet.co.uk we used to have their afterburner package (and the price has halved since we used to pay it!) they used to be based out of the Maidenhead data center, but i believe they moved nearer the middle of the uk back in september/october time.
(the managing directors name there is Paul Sands, he was always the best person to speak to {i ended up with his mobile number and he would poke staff with a stick to get things done one short notice} from memory though they didnt have dos protection, but was easy enough to get the server time extended when ever we had an attack. {Paul is of the mind set of if you keep the customer happy they will keep coming back! {and i keep going back when ever i need a server ;-) }
suppose i should get some breakfast and retry the server
