I play from my Mac 27" using BootCamp assistant.

You should have this too if it's a recent macbook.

There are plenty of guides around on the net that can assist you. You will need a USB stick and a copy of windows XP (I use 7 Pro).

If/When you manage to achieve this, it would be great to have a step by step guide on how this is done...

We can add it to our troubleshooting thread then.

Looks like its gonna work, downloaded VMware & Windows XP (although I only have 30 days until i need to use a code), currently downloading mir and if all goes to plan could be online in an hour! :D, on another note, I've found this laptop, I don't have a clue on specs etc but it sounds interesting and I know "XPS" is dell's gaming system, would this laptop run mir smoothly? found it for 300AUD on gumtree it a good price? around 175pnd

It works fine on a Mac, I've set up 2 MBPr so far both using VMware Fusion.

The are a few things to tweek if you do have the retina display, which I will try to note down later when I have some time.

When I'm not at work I'll try and put a guide together.

sweet, cheers Creme, don't suppose you know where I can get a code so I can use VMware fusion after the trial for free?

Google, there is a YouTube video somewhere with a code in the comments.

i play this server on both a macbookpro and an imac, with windows installed on both for playing games (via bootcamp).

download a torrent of windows (.iso file) to start, you can either burn it to a dvd or put it onto a bootable usb if you have no dvd drive; then run bootcamp assistant in osx.

i wouldn't bother with playing mir through a virtual machine in osx, the performance is terrible compared to natively running windows. if you are going to though, try parallels - i think it's the only one that makes proper use of your graphic card (you'll get a 'no access to direct 3d' error if you try to run mir on a vm without a 3d acceleration)

i did start making a wine wrapper to play this on osx (annoying having to reboot every time to switch between work/mir), but assumed there wouldn't be any other mac players. if anyone is actually interested let me know

Utter falsehood. The game runs perfectly well in fusion, either in full screen or unity mode, acceleration isn't an issue, the game runs smoothly and I have no lag or issues. Also have the benefits of not having to reboot to play.

The only problem that was encountered with fusion is the way it handles the mac keyboard for key combinations such as Ctrl+F1 for example, but there are ways to remap these.

I found that the game client had slight performance issues in Parallels 9 on Mavericks...native boot camp Windows 8.1 boot is fine though (and is how I play the game most days)

Hence why I didn't say to use Parallels. VMware Fusion 6 is superior in every way.

Lol so you're telling me you get the same performance in a virtual machine in mac osx as you do in native windows? Utter falsehood son. Open something like Path of Exile and you'll immediately see the difference. And for the record i've tried fusion, parallels, virtualbox etc - bootcamp is always much much faster (and it doesn't take a genius to work out why does it); but Parallels is best performance wise (booting from the bootcamp partition).

Parallels had 3D acceleration for some time, I think Fusion now has it too? And Fusion is ok with just a serial, Parallels is notoriously difficult that way and also needs keeping in kennel so it doesn't break out LOL (need snitch prog). Parallels is also a little too complicated program to use, Fusion is more straightforward.

Macbooks from recent years are quite fast machines that speed in VM doesn't have to be an issue in most cases, rebooting into Camp is onerous, might as well have got win machine then, its only ok for the times when you really really need windows once in a blue moon but not on the daily basis, like when you play mir for few hours every day or every other day.

Activated XP can be had here but you need to reg on that forum
