love the concept of this system, you may want to graphically distinguish an ass jmace from a good jmace (outer glow, different jmace models, text colour etc.) so players can see the upgrade as well as feel it.
it's not against common consensus that you would have a nicer looking game if you took away some of the useless ui bits, even if you released the server files with them in, but can appreciate that it's more work on your plate than you may want, and isn't fundamental to the core gameplay...

you should ultimately consider hardlocking the attack mode to peaceful, that way you'd have an actual argument for why your dev choices would result in less griefing
