just a little postmortem from my time playing as the numero uno warrior, take it with a grain of ass as i've not dared to visit mir since oldskool 1.

the good

server will make you struggle to go back to mir 2, as it runs as smooth as eggs, and will illicit less questions from your partner as to why you're playing an ancient dead game.
the hunting up to level 50 is varied enough, same nostalgic caves with slight changes to the layout and mobs. you can choose to hunt for 10 minutes and empty your bags for a few shekels, or level through to dura depletion over the course of an hour.
there's a few systems in place (creating a gem stone, creating a star amulet, socketing gear) which can be worked towards irrespective of how much time you have each day to play.
the stalls are a bit of a hassle to work, especially when the server is prone to crashing, as you'll be forced to relist stuff, but at least there's a server economy.
most players are helpful and friendly. you'll be called a faggot or a rat every so often, but that's mir baby.
the hero system could easily fit into the good or the bad box depending on what you're used to. i for one liked having a little buddy to gear up and hunt with that didn't talk back.
updates based on community feedback. although sometimes i think it would have been better to have pushed smaller updates (like localisation issues not allowing players to list items on their stalls) sooner, rather than wait to load it in to a bigger update.

the bad

the ui is abhorrent. got as many questions from new players regarding the ui as i did on where to hunt, or how to acquire X item. there's weird empty boxes in the inventory, random chinese characters spluttered over the screen, dialog/modal boxes that don't go away even after you click accept etc.
there's no structured pvp. no sabuk wall. closest you get is over a boss spawn and even then it's simply which team has the most numbers (5v3 with heroes doesn't make for an exciting experience for the team with 3).
bosses are on strict timers allowing for one or two guilds to easily time each spawn, this creates less parity for other players both pre-50 and post.
underbaked post-50 experience. the daily quests being more of the same kill quests. one boss that will either drop crap you'd expect from a sub in mines, or the best gear in the game currently.

the ugly

caveat here, i've not played mir since oldskool as each new server that's popped up on the server list has had some illicit pay to win feature that seems like it's taking advantage of a disenfranchised and small community desperate for its fix no matter the buy-in, so imagine my surprise when this server was released for what seemed like the love of the sport.
except they allow for third parties to play your account for you. a super-bot if you will, where if you pay an hourly wage they'll farm mobs, sell your trash, kill subs, trade rare items to your stall etc.
now, i'm not against some weirdo incestual shared taoist between two brothers you know not to ever message, but i think the line should be drawn in the sand when you're paying for someone to level your goon for you. every mmorpg has rules that state that this isn't allowed (name me one that doesn't, i'll wait), but due to not wanting to rock the boat, the devs of this server have given their implicit approval of using such tactics. well i say approval, they've said that they can't police such things, which is obviously nonsense when your concurrent userbase is 50 people, and you have the perp admitting to it in your god-dang discord.
as such, you're welcoming a race to the bottom where those willing to open their wallet will have an advantage. you could say that's true for buying virtual items or currency as well, which i would say the devs would be within their rights of putting their hands up and saying that it would be too tough to police.
maybe it would be okay if the guys cheating were also the life of the party, but they're all boorish morons who would bleed if they thought too hard.

without cheaters 8/10. fun game, needs to improve its UI, late game systems, questing, introduce structured pvp like sabuk etc.

with cheaters 0/10. who wants to play a game with cheaters? if the devs are okay with cheating to level 60, then why not just put a button in the game that lets us get there if we buy you a coffee? maybe you could repurpose one of those nonsense chinese buttons in your ui.

The empty box's on bag window are the cash shop items, as we don't use one, they are empty. the ones under gold and ingots are bound gold and bound ingots, again something we don't use. The plan in the end is to release this so we don't re design UI features that other server owners may want to make use off.

Sabuk is in the works, Lcd has mentioned this already.

As for the "cheaters", Account sharing is not cheating, if a player wants to account share they do it at there own risk.

it's not against common consensus that you would have a nicer looking game if you took away some of the useless ui bits, even if you released the server files with them in, but can appreciate that it's more work on your plate than you may want, and isn't fundamental to the core gameplay experience.

re: sabuk, yeah i know, but there's nothing in the game after the first month of going live with prior QA testing (though christ knows what they were testing judging by the state warriors were in at launch), so irrespective of the potential of structured pvp in the works, it ain't there yet.

re re: cheaters. okay if you say so, buster! let it be known that you went from being privately offended that i would mention you'd allow such a thing in your game, to completely flipflopping to the opposite, saying that you don't consider someone paying to be number one on your server to be cheating. as stated, if that's the case, repurpose one of those empty bag slots to be a level 60 boost, i'm sure you could undercut whatever the highest level player on your server has paid.

anyway, enough sour grapes. good luck with the server and ty to the nice players i met on my journey from being a scrub to a scrub with a red sword.

Have fun sam, it's a shame sabuk isn't ingame yet but there working on it, they've already done so much compared to when the whole game was in chinese only, every mir server these days allows RMT and levellers so it was always going to be a thing, theres also probably close to 100 active users just there never online all at the same time obviously being from different countries.

Also can i just say you mentioned your last server being oldskool, ben was/is well known for selling items and characters for real money, so it was even happening back then.

I mean, I cant actually think of many games now that dont allow users early access and instant highest level with full unlock of certain items.

Id sooner see my money in LCDs pocket than the usual suspects (you know who you are, you scrawny little cun ts).

@Sanity id consider it, bleed these cun ts dry lol.

Evening all
Having issues getting in game. Ive run the patcher and when I hit 'Start Game' it just closes.
I've changed the .ini file to .co.uk but still closes when I click 'Start Game'. I'm not sure if I've got the right programs installed to run the game.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Is the patcher downloading ok? changing the ini to .co.uk is if you have problems downloading from the pathcer.

Installed the above however the same still happens, client closes when I hit 'Start Game'.

Any other possible fixes?

  • Improve flinch bounceback (hopefully)
  • Fix hero death drops not updating client
  • Fix Lancer hero not using Annihilation

Once applied, war will start 2 days later, any guilds can apply in that time frame and participate. 30% discount from shops and cave teleports to certain floors of caves.
