[2.3] 2.3 on windows 8.1

Is it possible to run 2.3 files on a windows 8.1 OS?
SQL 2005 cant be installed, can i use SQL 2008 or 2012?
For now i've set up the files on vmware using windows server 2012, can i run the server on the vm and connect from my pc?

windows server 2012 is a world of pain, i woulda got with 2008... I see no reason why SQL 2008 wont work tho... but its been a long time since ive used TDs files

SQL 2008, got it installed on a VPS but can't seem to find anything to launch SQL lol
