There isn't an a-level in making computers. There's Alevel Computing, which is a huge departure from ICT. You could do IT Practitioners as a BTEC... if you feel that its the only route suitable for you.

With that list I'd have picked single ICT with Business/Law/History. Much more beneficial. On a CV, two As in ICT doesn't look too different to one A.

My school changed to an ict and maths college, still a secondary school but it specialized in those subjects. I had about 3 different it choices of ICT subjects, ICT diploma (takes up 2 blocks but worth 4 grades), ICT first (worth 2 grades) and another one but i can't remember what that was. I chose ICT first and if your ICT is anything like mine it's as boring as hell. Basicly all to do with excell, reviewing things and making reports.

Theres the Systems and Adminstration (or something like that) course which is to do with hardware/netorking, but I think its basic.

Nationa Diploma for IT practictioners (which I will assume is the new name for the National Diploma in computing, which was the first college course I took and failed LOL) is ok, but i think it only skims on hardware.

GCSE wise, its not gonna be worth much, most GCSE's arent. Maths and English are the only grades employers really give a **** about at that level, even then its more down to a "well he got a low grade in those so we dont want him" rather than a "WOW You got a high grade in maths/English."

Taking a "specialist" options like ICT or Business or Law, only really has an impact when you want to take them at higher levels, or when your going to university when the fact you have base knowledge in the subject from school can be a deciding factor about where you get accepted.

out of every subject I learnt during school/college, only two have turned out to be partially useful for the career im going for, and thats Law, and PE, which have helped my get into the police force, but even then, they werent a deciding factor, just a "little boost"

most employers really don't look for GCSE's especially in the ICT/computing business

what i REALLY don't understand is why people come on here, asking other people what options they should take, what courses to study, or what job career to move into... can people not decide for themselves anymore!?!?

if you really want advice, go speak to someone more qualified than some people who really the majority have only just started their careers or are in the same position as you are
Go to your local Connexions or whatever you have, if you want advice.

i know LOMCN can be a good source of advice..and sometimes (rarely) friendly but you cant seriously let 15/18 year old guys (what the majority of the forum is) decide your career path, that's ridiculous

I mean come i got a merit for ICT (based around the use of computers and information), and i'm currently working for an Audio electronics company in the production department, soon to be moving into the Testing department and go on a one day college course...my job now has pretty much nothing to do with my GCSES

Nice one Kud. But if he did what you just told him to, he'd not only be taking a 15/18 year olds advice, but he'd be taking your advice. Which is something I highly recommend against.

I'm getting an nvg in business at work. Is this of any use?

I'm also getting 1 in customer service, and i know this can help a lot.

Customer Service is nothing compared to previous experience in a job serving customers.
For someone like Hated1 customer service might be good. I doubt he can actually go into the workplace and grasp the concept of being polite and attentive. He probably thinks a polite line is "bye diz or I merk yew blud"

I've been working for about half a year where i currently am. Havn't had 1 problem yet.
I havn't had any past experience with customer service, but it's mainly general knowledge, and you must have confidence of course.

ICT is useless at GCSE level, I'd suggest doing ICT / Business Studies / Law.

I got a Pass in GCSE for ICT - mainly because I got bored doing simple things, but now I'm doing A Level, I'm one of the top in my class, seeing as it's actually interesting (although Computing / Computer Science is far better).

Business studies is good if you want to go into any subjects related to it (economics maybe) or just want to gain some knowledge into businesses.

I didn't take Law so not gonna bother commenting about it, but I've been told it's good. If I had the choices you do now I'd go for that.

And take Science if you don't have to. It's good to have if you want to go into ICT / any sciences.

Don't do anything, I got **** grades and I'm going to uni in september.

That's how it works.

(Mind you I had a massive personal development after school - they call it puberty or something, late bloomer).
