Thought I would just recap on the two methods I know of to get the files from Chinese / Ascii to English....
Using Global Input in Windows XP
As per another post -
Regional and Language Options in Windows XP
Languages - Tick Both the boxes
Advanced - Drop down to Chinese PRC
Reboot PC when told (when you clikc Apply)
On the New Bar that Appears - tick Allow Extended Unicode - yet another reboot (dont you love Windows).
Now what should happen - when you open one of the Ascii txt files, it should all appear in Chinese - but be carefull here, what looks like a ( is/could be a chinese £" - so make sure you do the () as well while your at it or you will have £"Hello"£ -- lol
Problems with that method - depends on your way you did the items, Myself I made a spreadsheet with Ascii and then english names (you did make a spreadsheet didn't you?) - now if you copied the chinese name, no issues as you can search and replace the chinese name to english...
MSWORD PLugin
Not sure which one I downloaded myself, it was on
www.microsoft.com/office page as I use Office 2003, I had to try a few plugin's before i finally got one that worked. What this does is this basically -
You can open up a txt file in notepad and it shows the ascii as before - I then right click the file and open with Word. Word then presents a List of lang to choose from - Chinese Simplifled GB2312 i think i choose - this shows the file in Chinese. I can then copy, paste into Babel and translate - then copy the translation into Notepad - this way I def get all the ascii out of the file for sure and makes it easy for me to search for the Ascii in the spreadsheet for Items, Mobs and the like.
Personally I prefer option 2 myself, yes its a lot of jumping between windows but at least i can be sure that ASCII is removed and replaced with English rathet than me msising what looks like a Char in English only to get in game and find £" for example...
