Assassin Skill's - moonlight

Never played an assassin before and i am curious on how the mechanics of moonlight actually work. Does it create a stealth which no player can see you for x amount of time? Or is it merely a transition to give you're class a specific damage buff prior to using back stab for example?

One other thing does the assassin acquire an ability early on to afflict any aoe damage similar to a warrior's half moon?
