The server seems fun at the moment, last nights user count was around the 300 mark at peak time, so it feels very active and populated.
It also has a test server in place where people can trial the up-and-coming changes before they make it to the live server which is a good addition.
I think you’ll always find that people feel the game is unbalanced if “their” class isn’t on top, it’s very much a game of rock, paper, scissors and with the continuous updates and changes the unbalanced elements get reviewed and changed where required.
I think the others have covered how to get the game working on your MBP (I would suggest Bootcamp over Parallels as it’s free).
Nyx has pretty much covered some good starting advice, having a levelled companion can be the difference on what areas you can hunt so I would say it’s priority number one for any new starter as it levels by time spent in-game (not around kills). Maybe one thing that Nyx missed is the Hunt Gold system, while you are killing monsters you will gain 1 hunt gold per minute, if you press “Y” ingame it will open the Game Gold Store, from here you have the choice to credit your account with real money or spend the Hunt Gold that you’ve collected, I would advise getting the temporary buffs first and then pick up the permanent ones once you have accumulated more Hunt Gold (you can collect enough Hunt Gold to never have to use real money, just your progression will be slower than those that do buy game gold - the server don’t feel overly Pay-2-Win).
