Of course it matters.
Bandwidth costs money and thats why he needs to know.
It all depends on how active your server will be - obviously 50 people max, but how long are they going to play per month?
Ok, here's a rough estimate:
Code:
IF - 1 player = 2kbps
THEN - 60*2 = 120
SO - 1 player connected for 1 minute consumes 120kb of bandwidth.
THEN - 120*60 = 7200
SO - 1 player connected for 1 hour consumes 7200kb (7.2mb) of bandwidth.
IF - 1 player is connected for 10 hours.
THEN - 7200*10 = 72000
SO - 1 player connected for 10 hours consumes 72000kb (72mb) of bandwidth.
THEN * 50*72000 = 3600000
SO - 50 players connected for 10 hours consumes 3600000kb (360mb) of bandwidth.
I think I have that right, remember I just guessed the actual per second useage.
EDIT: Didn't know you meant a patch server! :P
50gigs is sufficient since you wont take up 1gig a month per player downloading patches.
