Well ...botters work by detecting names and executing actions against those names correct?

Why not have a 1 hit killing mob with the same name? Make it spawn and only attack upon initiation like a Hen/Deer?

Make it stand out and obvious that it doesn't belong and warn the real community not to attack them

I guess the hard part is making it stand out to warn the real community... There is no real way of doing this that the botting community couldn't latch on to.

Had it on a game once. Was farming away and a big arsed mob spawned on me lol. Me being a noob attached it thinking it was a boss as it owned me.

They had it set to spawn on players who spent x amount of time in a specific area to stop level farmers lol

Oh, sorry, I just read your post on the other thread Sam.

So, the community is raging about something that's fake. I see no need for captchas, my view is it's damaging to new users. If you just downloaded the game for the first time, try to hunt and keep getting hit by these captchas, you may wonder if this continues throughout the game and leave.

Personally, I would just keep monitoring it. Make some appearances in game, and especially in Mizu and try to find out for yourselves.

Sam

I'm sure titles can be given to mobs? Much like NPCs can?

Something that doesn't effect the botters name detection.

As I said above, the mob that spawned on me also inherited the mobs name that I was targeting the most lol

I have... Nothing strikes me as a concern, anything over 10m with the current economy would require an investigation and I haven't had to do an investigation yet (which gives you a rough idea without giving away to much).

Sam

FYI... Did your search include GoldBars/Bundles/Chests? Someone in guild bought gold and it was given to him in bar form so I imagine the botters are turning their millions into items instead of raw cash to avoid this type of detection.

Highly annoying, but I guess it would work. The annoyance would be great... Surely there must be a better way

Perhaps set something that alerts you if a character has spent over 5 hours on a single map and do a quick investigation. You will quickly see if people are genuinly leveling, AFK or hunting chestnuts continuously.

Get AFK Spell levelers to go to a training room to stop spamming safezones and slowing peoples games down.

They can just set their macro to tele between maps every time it goes to sell up.

captcha works, but then that'd be so frustratingly annoying really quickly as it breaks immersion and chestnutting is generally for those times when your brains switch off so decyphering a poorly written text or doing maths is going to be a nightmare, but if it can be integrated to be simple enough that you don't need to think about it too much and it "looks" like mir rather than an alien pop up then it could work.

Agree, but it still has to look similar to the normal captcha so that Bots can't decipher it... But there are many captcha codes that are quite hard to see even for human eyes :S so please give us an option to refresh for a new code if it's put in place, otherwise we could have 3 hard to read codes that we get wrong each time and we'd get kicked just because we couldn't read it properly and couldn't refresh it... Either that or make them very clear for us to be able to read it but of course make it hard for a bot to read it.

Yep.

Like he mentioned in the other thread, we have multiple checks on items / exp / gold.

Gold/Item/Char sales for rl money shouldnt be permited imo.. makes way easier to prevent botting like that.
Else, Player (a) bots with chars b c d and passes all the gold to e, then e "sells"(to himself, char a) 1m every 2days, he cud just say " i bought it for rl cash and since its permited.. ask the lvl 1 how he made the gold" dunno if u get my point.. Should at least make it easier to bann the botted gold

I'm talking about the screenshot.

So because someone made a fake screenshot you see no reason for captchas? Also you tell him to monitor it, monitor what, a fake screenshot?

The thread is about bots, bots are real. That is the reason for capchas.

The issue is the entire team could spend 100% of their Mir time attempting to monitor this... Nothing else would end up getting done and its not 100% monitor-able...

Ie player a sells gold to player b via pp... trades gold ingame... We have no way of determining this as a "sale" or as a genuine trade.

Can thjs be added to mining nodes too? Botters must be able to bot mine if they can bot harvest

Yeah that's true. Their argument about selling gold is fair though. Apparently it's quite hard to determine if a character has bought gold. However, making selling gold an offence is fairly easy to implement.

Yes, I see no reason to add captchas because I think they are a bad idea as I explained earlier.

No.. what I was suggesting to monitor, were the supposed bots in Mizu farming chestnuts.

Worthing is depressing.
You could have set NPCs for chestnuts and ore selling that require a random question to be answered.

Genuine hunters will only be pestered once when they sell it all but you can still investigate if its answered incorrectly.

I think this is better idea! The problem i see is its a 'potential' threat when collecting gold to be smashed by a PK'er.. small chance but has potential. Not to mention frustrating.
