Bug Reporters

So I have been reading the documentation on our Bug Tracker and what I plan to do is the following:

- Create a global user who has viewing rights, the username and password will most likely be something like "lomcn" and "passw0rd". This will allow people to log in and check the current open bugs before creating a new one post.

- I would also like to recruit one or two active members of the forum community who will be given reporting rights and my expectation of them would be to go through open posts in our bug section, determine whether or not they are bugs or opinions and if they are bugs and not already reported then report them.

There will be no benefits to for doing this other than helping toward a better set of files and self satisfaction.

The person(s) will need to have an even view of all classes and a scoped view from a server creation and management point of view...

If your interested in helping out feel free to say why :P

Cheers guys,
Sam

Evening Sam, I'd be more than happy to assist you witth this if it'll help take the load off you a bit?

As a further suggestion, once a bug report has been replicated and verified possibly mark the original bug post title with [Awaiting feedback] (should more information be required before commiting to tracker) / [In Tracker] (bug verified and logged no need to keep going on about it!) / [Testing] (bug is now being worked on for a solution )/ [Solved - awaiting release] (problem fixed in next release). The thread can be locked/deleted once in tracker to keep bug section tidy and easy to manage.....

Also a standardised form for bug reports may make it easier? I noticed you had one but it doesn';t seem to be used....

Code:
Date of problem: <DD/MM/YY>
Location in game: (Map/x/y - where appropriate): <Map> <X> <Y>
Char/mob(This may be helpful should logs be available to assist in resolving the issue): <CHAR/Mob Name Here>
Description of problem: <Problem experienced>
Expected Result: <Expected>
Actual Reslt: <Actual>
Possible Solution(if you have one feel free): <Resolution Thoughts>

Anything not in the standard form is ignored and removed - again if they want to make files better and complete then a little effort can be made by users to make the problem clear and easy to deal with for those actually have to do the job of fixing it. In my work, at least, if someone comes up to me and says there computer is broken and I ask whats wrong I'd expect something useful to go on or I'll send them away.

Yes this is a moan....

I'm surprised at the lack of interest in this, unless the interest has been registered by PM that is, surely a few more of the 200+ players can give a few hours a week... The amount of people that are willing to moan and complain about the problems/lack of updates/when will this/tst be done/When can we have the files/etc yet very few of you seem to be willing to assist? Sam's not asking for coders or any special knowledge - just those with a little common sense and a drive to help make things better quicker by taking a little of the workload within the forum.

Personally I feel that if you're not willing to put a little in then you have no right to sit at your keyboards and bitch about the team and things not being the way you want them when you are offered the opportunity to help make a difference.

Is it because there are no benefits for doing it? Look at the big picture - there are benefits - The work will be done quicker, the coders can concentrate on coding and not having to troll through posts, so releases will include more fixes, and sooner all this happens the sooner work can be done on new content and file release....

To those who have posted bug reports - well done at least you are making an effort to help.

For those who find this offensive and upsetting, I'm not overly fussed, flame away and prove my point, as I said this is a moan and if you feel that you are entilted to having all this work handed to you then you should pop you're head up to the real world for a look around. The world does not get handed to you, you dont get paid/educated for free - you must put something in.

Just a FYI, literally three people have said they could help and that's the above three... I did expect more interest myself, but three is enough, I will sort out some accounts once I feel a bit more human.

I wouldn't mind helping. This is just for bugs though right, not balancing issues or server changes/improvements.

I'll help if you need more takers. I should note, I don't play your server at this current moment in time. However I feel this gives me the edge in having unbiased views over the classes...

Which is clearly a common problem :P
