I know there's tons of threads, but I really do know so little.

Budget - £500

For general use, needs to be capable of running games like Aion and LoL on highest spec (not bothered about any of the new uber games really, which is just as well as I can't budget for it).
A fairly good cooling system cos it gets verrry hot in this house.
Ideally 6-8gb ram
Can't imagine needing more than 1tb hdd 500gb would probably suffice even
Wireless card
Some half decent speakers and a sub would be nice

Don't need monitor and can get mouse/keyboard elsewhere (suggestions welcome)

you don't REALLY need more than 4GB ram, not for playing Aion or LoL.

You could probably go for a lower end motherboard which doesn't have dual graphic card slots for crossfire/SLI.

Unless you're going to overclock you could save a little by purchasing the i5 2500 instead of 2500k. (The K has better onboard graphics and is unlocked for overclocking)

And if you really wanted to save pennies you could buy a much cheaper case and PSU.

But yeah that setup i gave you is good, and will max out on most games.

Looks like there's only £7 in the 2500 and 2500k? So meh

Why does that case look so **** for £65?

How much would a cheaper motherboard be?

:D

cheaper motherboard. It has only 2 ram slots, but thats fine for 2 sticks of 4GB. And it doesn't have SATA3, but unless you're buying an SSD this will make no difference to you.

Also wireless cards are like £10. Your choice over a USB or PCI.

PCI will give you a better signal and speed with the larger aerial on the back, but USB is more discrete, and doesn't waste cooling space in the case.

What's an SSD? lol
If I bought that cheaper motherboard (is it ****?) then I wouldn't need a SATA3 hdd, right? LOL dont even know what i'm talking about I just saw there was SATA2's for cheaper..

As for wireless cards well I want the best signal/speed but then my router is only in the next room so would it make any difference?

I have never built a pc in my life, tbh I'd have them on my desk pointing at my face unless instructed otherwise

SSD = solid state drive. Memory based drivers which are much faster at loading, but at a cost of about 1GB to £1.

SATA3 and SATA2 are backwards compatible, and a SATA3 hard drive will give you no noticeable performance over a SATA2 hard drive. So yeah if you find a SATA2 drive for cheaper then thats fine.

The cheaper motherboard i gave you is good for your requirements. People often go way over board with the motherboard, but its really not required.

And IMO extra fans or expensive coolers are not required. Unless you want your computer to be super silent and intend to overclock the stock cooler you get is perfect.

Kay thanks.

Well I did say it gets rly hot in here but I can just see how it goes and add if I need to

Anyway I've put together a combo of both your lists (put it here for my own benefit too)

i5 2500k - £161.99
Farphits case + psu - £64.67
Farphits ram (2x4gb) - £37.00
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - £57.98
Shabas ATX - £67.50 (no idea what he's on about with matx being a pain? surely you only need to touch it the once? XD)

Farrils GT440 - £56.88

Total: £446.02

OR (do i need this really? for £40 more)
Shabas GTX 550 - £96.70

Total: £485.84

The £446 would be good considering I need speakers/mouse/keyboard too

GPU wise, the 550ti is just a bit below the 560 in that test. Obviously it's better for £40 more, just depends how much your game and at what resolution!

Also, mATX is exactly what it sounds like. Micro. It's smaller and more of a pain to build, ATX is just more spacious and easier to work on! Also, OC'ing on a micro isn't as good as on a ATX. If you do opt for the mATX, then is there point in getting the 2500k?!

Get the cheaper card, and then upgrade in a few month or more when you can afford better.

If this is your first build, be prepared to spend a good few hours, maybe even a day or 2 to get it all built!
