Hi every one im new here, ok im building a pc, my bugget was £1300 but im over shot by that now by about 600£.

A few questions i have as i have never made a pc before and not to sure on compatability.

Will the below be a good gaming machine ?
and will it all be compatable ?

Cpu - AAMD (San Diego) Athlon 64bit 4000+ 939pin 1mb L2cache Retail Boxed Processor

Mobo - Asus A8N-Sli Deluxe

Mouse - Razor diamond back magma

GFX - BFG GeForce 6800 Ultra OC 256MB DDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (BFGW68256UOCX) (GX-002-BG)

Psu - Enermax Noisetaker 600W EG701AX-VE(W) SFMA ATX2.0 SLI Compliant

OS - Win XP

HDD - Western digital 74 gb 10,000 rpm

Ram - OCZ 1GB (2 x 512MB) PC4800 Dual Channel Platinum Series EL-DDR CAS2.5 (MY-055-OC)

DVD/CD-RW - Sony Dwu-26a

Key board - saitek gaming keyboard with 9 programmable buttons

Mouse mat - Ice mat

Case - Asus Vento 3600 (Blue)

DVD-r - Asus DVD

Fan - Antec 120 mm fan / smartcool 80 mm fan

Cpu Fan - Coolmaster hyper 48 cooler

Now im stuck with what monitor to get so im hoping that some one will share some advice on what a good gaming moniter is to get, wether it be CRT or TFT and preferably 19" with good refresh rate, dont really want to spend more than 300

The monitor i was thinking about is the - IIyama Vision Master Pro 454 19" CRT DiamondTron Monitor (MO-023-IY) which is £233

The other thing if every thing is compatable, is there a better case than the Asus Ventro ? because i should imagine theres going to be alot of heat and dont know if the case is any good.

So theres the above Have ordered some parts today, Will this be a good gaming platform ? Or what can i do to tweak it to make it better ? The proccessor im happy with, and the Psu and HDD. But im not a hardware man im a software man, so any advice will be greatly appricated.

Thanks 2dope

I like the cpu, woulda spent a little more and went AMD A64 X2 4400+, but the 4000+ is good.

I don't like the mobo, switch to MSI SLI or if you can DFI SLI.

The mouse is good, my personal preference is MX518 from logitech.

Would have definitely gone with X850 XTPE.

PSU is good.

Maxtor 300GB 16mb cache would have cost basically the same with more space and the same speed.

Ram is good but GSKILL 'LA' is better.

Never have used them personally but they make excellent game controllers and joysticks, probably the best.

I like XTRAC mousepads but all the nice ones are pretty much around the same.

Sony is good but plextor/pioneer is better.

That case sucks A LOT.

CPU fan is good but I would have gone Thermalright XP-90c.

What did you buy already?

For the case you really need to specify your budget, going on the case you've already got down (the shockingly desgusting Asus Vento (what were they thinking?)) you're looking at about £80-£100 yes? In which case why not get the Akasa Eclipse 62 + side panel (first two items on that page). It's nice looking, got bucket-loads of space and has very good cooling properties.

As for the monitor, you'd be better off buying a 17" LCD. The viewable area on the LCD would only be an inch smaller than that of a 19" CRT, you'll save loads of desk space and most of the 17" LCDs are cheaper than that CRT you've listed. Something like the Viewsonic VP171S-2 is in your price range and is an excellent monitor. The only problem is that they have native resolutions of 1280x1024 and, I imagine, with a spec like that you'll be wanting to play games at 1600x1200. For that you'd need at least a 20" LCD.

good but dnt get me wrong you dnt want a crt monitor as crt monitors have VGA connectors if im not mistaken, and that gfx card has dual DVI ports so if that gfx card has no vga port you would have to get an adaptor if you are getting a crt monitor sorry if im mistaken just a random idea o_O
