I'm looking for some new RAM for my laptop (preferably 1-2gb) but don't know where to look. I want to spend as little money as possible but saying that I don't want a piece of crap either.

Can anyone recommend some good sites?

thanks

Maybe you could state your current ram specs, Also your going to be looking at about £50 for 2GB of alright laptop memory.

What speed is it and is it DDR 2 or DDR 1 - If you have a laptop with that amount of memory it could be just DDR 1

First of all go to www.crucial.com and do a scan. It will say what memory you have currently, what you can upgrade to, and reccomend you some of theirs.

That way atleast you know exactly what you need, and also will give you a benchmark on prices.

I have no idea what DDR is or how I find that out :P

Skyline I did your scan and got the following results:

# Maximum Memory Capacity: 1024MB
# Currently Installed Memory: 512MB
# Available Memory Slots: 0
# Total Memory Slots: 2
# Dual Channel Support: No
# CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel
# CPU Family: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.80GHz Model 2, Stepping 9
# CPU Speed: 2791 MHz

Our suggested upgrades

1GB Total

512MB current memory removed *

1GB new memory added

So I guess that rules out 2gb anyway lol.

£46.98 inc. VAT **** off! :(

So basically I need 2x 512mb bits, I was given some for free, it was Samsung and it didn't fit, what's that about?

Well post back here what the sticker says on the ram you was given which doesnt fit, Does it just say DDR or is it DDR 2 as both are different. You can get 1gb for cheaper than the price you mentioned above.

It doesn't say on the sticker, but I googled a code that's on it - M470T6554CZ3, and it would appear to be DDR2.
