Client through chrome?

Not sure if I really know what I am talking about lol but here goes.

I am on a works computer,it has webblock.

When I load up the Mir client ,it won't connect due to the web block....but I have a VPN extension in chrome which allows me to surf anything I want. So my question is...is it possible to route the client connection to go via chrome instead of internet explorer? So I can download?.

I tried setting up a proxy in IE but unless you pay for them they are to unstable and not worth the hassle.

Have you tried loading it from a USB stick? currently what im doing and it works a treat, apparently our security doesn't reach out as far as external devices


*edit* Just to clarify, i mean transfer it to a USB from your home computer or another source and then use it on the USB at work

I installed VMware workstation on my laptop, created windows 7 vm. Then theathered phone Network to laptop which only the VM uses, laptop still connected to company network...
Bit of a heavy workaround, but even when it's downloaded
.. the company's VPN blocked me from opening Mir and connecting to client

The VPN extension on Chrome is most likely just a web proxy so it will only route HTTP and HTTPS (port 443 and 80) traffic in Chrome through a proxy server, a VPN is essentially an encrypted tunnel to the internet where traffic can traverse bypassing the firewall, unfortunately most large organisations have asset management solutions in place so they would probably be able to see if you've installed a VPN service and I think a lot of them require admin rights anyway.

Easiest thing to do is just keep PC at home on and use TeamViewer, not ideal but does the job and TeamViewer has a no install version, normally if you can access the internet from your work computer you can use TeamViewer unless they've got some specific firewall rules for it.

If your job doesn't require you to be using the business network to do your job you can buy a gli.net router (around £20-25) and set it up with a VPN using it's OpenVPN function. Also useful if you want to access the internet via a non-business laptop in the workplace if they don't block VPNs that is.
