With the imminent grand opening of the Mir Chronicles server, we thought it would be a great oppertunity to extend a closed beta invitation to some of the players that are readily waiting to get their teeth sunk in.

As a closed beta player you will have the oppertunity to gain a first glance at some of the new content and functionality, have your say and leave your print on the direction of the server and most importantly have direct access to the development team to report issues and ask questions.

Mir Chronicles closed beta will commence over the upcoming week(s), 15 players with an invite will be able to login and test run the server, providing us with any and all information they feel necessary. At the end of the closed beta the characters will be wiped, however, those who have taken part will continue to have a direct line of communication with the development team.

So, how do you get an invitation? It's simple, share the closed beta advert post on facebook to be in for a chance of being a closed beta player. Those who have shared this post will be collated and 15 people will be randomly chosen.

Closed Beta Advert

Good luck, and we hope to see you ingame soon,
Chronicles Development Team

Not sure I totally agree with using the facebook share media to pick your beta testers. As stated above, you are better off hand-picking your testers to get a broader spectrum of things tested. Pve, pvp, class balance, so forth. If all 15 people refuse to pvp, then what? Just hope it goes well?

Are the 15 different people running Mir on potatoes or NASA computers? How will you know if your server's optimized for different Operating systems?

Not to mention facebook profiles conflict with sharing itself. If I were to share this to my profile, it wouldn't appear as shared to you because my profile is restricted.

Not to mention from a business standpoint, it's not very logical.

Besides all this, I do look forward to it and pray to the heavens that whoever beta tests it, actually properly tests common Mir problems.

Who ever gets picked is going to be biased anyway to there favorite class etc, it's human nature.

I'll wait it out for release, hope some seriously wrong decisions don't get made....

Best way would to just open the server to every1 for a week or two that way you have a lot more people with brains testing, insted of 15 retards from Facebook.

But why make it limited... Have everyone test it out ... There is really no reason to limit this... Maybe make a similar bug report tool you had for ace...

i think Limited is the way to go, if you open it up to all its not long before you get the crys not to wipe, and some ppl who didnt bother with beta get left behind.

Sams played long enuff he must know a good few players he could get to test for a limited time, who could give appropriate feed back.

Limited is a good way to test, as jez has said, a lot of people would end up asking for it not to be wiped.

However limiting it to Facebook people only is not so good, I for one hardly ever use Facebook and won't do so just to have a chance for beta.

I would say have another 15 people from the LOMCN community. Preferably people who would make the effort to report bugs and actually help when testing(not just power level, but by checking most NPCs are working correctly, quests not bugged, map bugs etc)

Still it's good to hear a beta is starting soon!

I am unable to share the post on Facebook as I don't promote being an online gamer publicly.

If you want a serious tester with a deep knowledge of the game then you can see evidence of this here (http://www.lomcn.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?619-C-MiR-Server) as I tested Jamie/Shane's C#Mir server.

However if you are using this purely for publicity then I cannot help you.

I'll vouch, Got alot of helpful information from Hyd.

I totally agree with the previous posts, advertise is advertise, testers are testers...
Do not really use the feedback of a group of testers recruited randomly, please.

That said, it is a pleasure to see that you are ready for the beta!
A huge good luck, can not wait to play your server!!!

I also think the way Jamie done testing was a good way.

Would like to test this and give feedback but as previously stated by others, i also wont be posting the advert on my facebook wall which is a shame but ah well hope it goes well.

Why not pick some long standing LOMCN members aswell?

People randomly selected testers is no problem at all.
For example: I'll make a thread were people can ask me to test stuff out and i'll check it out and react on it.
Also any player of the 1 players could do this making 15 testers effectively 40 testers.
The reason it's by facebook is cause they atleast want you to atleast show some determination for it by awkwardly sharing it to your timeline.
(dat awkward moment people will always be able to see it :))

nonetheless samuel chose this path respect it and don't bash his idea it's his server not yours and if you disagree i invitate you to make your own "server"

Couldn't agree more with this. I'd enter for the Beta but Sam has no idea how to take negative criticism, amount of helping we did on Ace M2 just to get it thrown back at us or have it ignored. Suggested various things throughout the game as suggestions to help the server, only to have it said it was perfectly fine, then 2 months later "oh ****, yea that IS actually overpowered" after the damage was done. Never had thanks for it either.

15 random people to beta test is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard, might as well grab 5 homeless people off the street, 5 cats and dogs, and a fork, a knife and 3 dessert spoons and let them test it for all the help it'll be.

Also, "those who have taken part will continue to have a direct line of communication with the development team."... what's this, first 15 people in game get to have a sever advantage by being in personal communication with the developers? Get the feeling those same 15 people with be in a monopolising guild with Sabuk Wall, all the spells and kit and camping all the bosses one week into the server. Wade_Street anyone?

waiting for a "now open" thread on the forum for 3 months isnt enough? why the **** would i advertise the server on my facebook? its the teams job to get the word out! and some shiity bride like this wont do it! removing the carepackage that was promised killed my desire to show any support!

Disagree is feedback, mate...
I could answer you: "if you want to silencing the people, created your own server and play it alone, without opening it to the public, this is Samuel one, not yours"
But it's just a joke, Jacko, I know what you mean whit your post.
I'm sure nobody blames Samuel here, we are just giving him our support, the way we think he need at moment.

So by your logic its better to just have the 15 people who get an invite a head start ye? We should also limit our "beta" because people would cry for a wipe? really? Every decision must be made with the belief that the mir community are a bunch of idiots right?

Mir is a small community.. There is no reason to have this a closed beta...

In response to some of the previous posts.

I am personally appreciative of all the feedback we have had previously and continuously read (and I would say 9/10 action positive, productive) feedback.

As for the way we have chosen to go about the beta testers... Regardless of how long you have been playing the game or how much better you believe yourself to be over other people, people who are interested in playing the server are of equal standing to anyone else and therefore should hold an equal opportunity in becoming a beta tester.

As to why Facebook; Facebook is available to everyone (even those who choose not to use it) and provides us with a free mechanism to count how many people interested in the server, yes we have 500 odd likes, but how many people are actively interested is a completely different figure... Using Facebook not only provides us with an opportunity to increase the server community (which is in the best interests of everyone), and a simple and fair way of choosing some beta players, it also provides us with some invaluable data e.g. a minimum number of players to expect to launch with (which we could then toggle up/down the spawn rates in noob areas to accompany for)...

I invite many of you (not all and I apologize to those who do generally want to provide valuable feedback and some times feel they are ignored) to think of the server as a community and what is best for that community, rather than thinking about what YOU can gain from it.

My 10 pence :)

Sam
