I have the same problem, if your tower unit is really hot aswell, means your PSU has buggered up, and depending on how long this has been going on for, your soon due for a new PSU as it's gonna die, and your PC just won't turn on at all..and they cost alot of money £150 or there abouts...lucky me on extended warranty so I get em free :D..

and the moral of this story is...turn your pc off reguarly or by all the latest equiptment for your pc...so it runs smooth

well then your the lucky one, my parents are computer illiterate and think a pc is like a console, and once you've bought it that's it, so I still have components that are 2 years old (except the PSU which has been replaced 3 times X'D) so I have a shyte old GFX card, little RAM and little disc space, but I'm getting a laptop this xmas, so this pc will probably become a server while I look after and update the laptop..but before I will probably buy new ram and cpu for this computer so it can take the server and have no lag, I also recently contacted my ISP about getting a static IP :-D

think they usually charge extra for static.

Also I had a problem on my old computer with it restarting when I was playing age of empires 2, bought a new fan for it and it works fine now. It was getting to about 70ºc before so guess that was the problem.

Stop.

Firstly you should buy an extra fan or two (cheap, about £5-10), if installed properly (taking covextion currents into condiseration) you should find your PC wont overheat and shut down on you.

You should also make sure you have maintained your PC; run anti-virus, trojan detector, clean cache, burn and delete unused files, check disk cluster, etc.

Good luck. :)

that used to happen to me. usually when it was inactive but some programs on your pc will restart the pc once they are finished... what programs do ya normally run anyway?

if its restaring, it wont b the fans, cos if it overheats, it wont boot up agen. most likely ur runnin 2 many progs and XP has a safety feature tht restarts ur pc wen it becomes unstable
