Hiya,
I've just recently kinda of made my own practise website of freewebs (I know its lame etc but I'm just learning the basics so I can make my own in the future.
My problem is to get visitors on my website they have to know my whole url, which wont get me far unless I spam anywhere and everywhere (don't worry I won't be doing that). So I need to add a tag to my site, submit to a search engine and internet directories, but that where the problems lay. Where do I get my tags from?, What engines could I use except google, yahoo and msn? And what is a internet directory?
As I'm new and learning this stuff html's would not really be of any help to me unless someone could and is prepared do it for me?
Also without sounding more cheeky is there any chance someone with a personal website, put a link to my nooby one?

Thank You in advance.

P.s sorry if this seems to be a website advertising, it's not I'm asking for advise.

Search engine wise, your biggest problem is using a free-provider. Sites like google, and yahoo rank pages via their information and how unique they are.

They wont rank a page that is very similar to other pages. If you update your sites main page often, and keep a lot of information flowing on it, sites will pick it up. Linking to sites that are relevant to your sites topic will help, and make sure the sites you link to have good rankings. If you link to a linkfarm or one of those gimmicks, they wont be fooled, it will count against you.

Your other option is to trade links with people, put an advert on your site for their site, and they do the same for you, its basically known as "Affiliation" This also gets picked up by the search engine's.

To understand it better as well. What these engines do is connect to your site, and begin to crawl (look at) all the pages on your site, taking all the information in the HTML, and assesing how useful it is etc. They look for words that come up a lot (like Mir and server appear tonnes on here) so Google would flag them as keywords for LOMCN.

Depending on the amount and quality of information on your site, google, and other search engines will then rank your page accordingly. However on freewebs, some of this is controlled by the actual owners of freewebs, as they will have their own words in the HTML that bring their site up.

If your confused by all this, dont worry, i dont know everything either. The best thing i can suggest is pass the link to friends, see if you can get other people to trade links with you, and it all it takes is a PM to the staff on here, and you can post a link for your site.

Well to explain my website:
I've have made a website (practise test). The site is all about my modeling career.Once it is finished it will show my photographs (past, present and future), have a blog containing the description of what I have done to try to become a model. And also give a personal profile with my stats and contacts details, which hopefully with help sell me. Once my modeling gets off the ground I will get my own domain and proceed in that direction.

Finally you mentioned "Affiliation", I asked that on my last post, is anyone willing to do it?

P.s If anyones wants to see my website just ask, you'd be great help to me if you could critise on it.

Thank You Atom

I'd reccomend wordpress over dBlog tbh, and dmoz, while worth submitting to can take over a year to get into, as for hosting, dreamhost is good. so is liquidweb.
