What Kind of Game Is Darkfall?​


Darkfall is a PvP-focused sandbox MMORPG, often compared to a mix of Ultima Online, Asheron’s Call, and Legend of Mir.

It features:
  • Full or partial loot
  • Physics-based combat
  • Skill-driven progression
  • No tab-targeting

If you’ve played games like WoW or ESO, you know that feeling where the world is full of players, but most of them feel like NPCs. Darkfall is different. Every encounter matters.

You constantly have that “Oh ****” moment:

Is this guy going to kill me, or just ride past? Should I hide, run, or start the fight?

Just like in Mir, players build real reputations:
  • One player can change the political landscape
  • X is known as the best PvPer
  • Y is the richest trader
  • Guilds rise and fall based on player decisions


PvP (Player vs Player)​


PvP is the core of Darkfall.
  • Open-world PvP almost everywhere
  • Full loot/Semi on death (you drop what you carry)
  • No tab-targeting — everything is manually aimed
  • Skill, movement, positioning, and awareness matter more than gear
  • Small-scale duels
  • Ambushes and ganks
  • Group skirmishes
  • Massive clan battles and city sieges

PvE (Player vs Environment)​


PvE exists to support PvP, not replace it.

  • Challenging monsters and dungeons, no instances to hide in.
  • High-risk PvE zones with valuable loot
  • Farming spots that attract PvP conflict
  • Find a quite spot and grind away
  • Bosses that require coordination and preparation
  • Every monster in the game drops something players need for crafting
  • ship combat for ocean bosses

PvE is dangerous because other players are often the biggest threat, not the monsters themselves.



Skills & Progression​


Darkfall uses a skill-based progression system, not traditional classes.

  • Skills improve through use
  • You build your character through how you play
  • Magic schools, weapons, defenses, and utilities all level independently

This allows for deep customization, but skill and decision-making always outweigh raw numbers.



Physics-Based Combat​


Combat is action-oriented and physics-driven:
  • Free aim melee, archery, and magic
  • Projectile travel time and gravity
  • Knockbacks, movement, and positioning matter
  • Dodging, bunny-hopping, and terrain usage are part of combat mastery

If you miss, you miss. If you outplay someone, you win.



Destroyer Class​


While Darkfall is largely classless, Destroyer is a notable specialization.

  • Focused on melee combat
  • Extremely strong against magic users
  • Limited or no spellcasting
  • High survivability and pressure in close combat

Destroyers are feared frontline fighters and a key part of group PvP compositions.



Crafting & Economy​


Crafting is player-driven and essential.
  • Weapons, armor, ships, tools, and siege equipment are crafted by players
  • Gear is constantly destroyed through PvP, keeping the economy alive
  • Resource control matters — clans fight over valuable materials

Crafters and traders can become just as famous as PvPers.



Clans & Politics​


Darkfall is built around player organizations.
  • Clans control cities and territory
  • Diplomacy, alliances, betrayals, and wars are all player-driven
  • Politics matter as much as combat skill

Who you trust — and who you anger — can shape your entire experience.




Sieging & Warfare​


Sieges are the endgame.
  • Scheduled large-scale battles
  • Use of siege weapons, ships, and coordinated tactics
  • Cities can be captured, looted, and defended
  • Victory or defeat can reshape the world map
This is where preparation, leadership, and coordination truly shine.

If you’re looking for a safe, guided MMO — this isn’t it.

I just think mir players would do really well and shake up the world. I will shill this game till the day I die (Soon probably, had ice-cream for breakfast). Its the only game that gives me the same feeling Mir does nothing comes close.

This game was amazing but it hasn't aged well at all. Already tried the beta and it felt horrible

2008 beta? or 2017 beta? They are releasing the game this weekend as it was at the end of the new version of rise of agon, Completely different from 2009 Darkfall. The game will be 32bit while they test big changes for the 64bit steam release. (End of 2026 / start 2027).

The beta test they ran like 1-2 weeks ago.
