Behind You!
Der god you don't have a ****ing clue do you? Saddam isn't one of your gangster rapping buddies you know. There was a failed assasination attempt on him, if he caught the assasisin and kill the assasin, nobody would have cared really.

What he did was murder the entire village in revenge for it. Thats like some kid crashing a car in your town, and everyone under 21 being banned from driving there. Im pretty sure if that happened you would be ****ing outraged.

Iraq was a decent country till he took over, his first act was to basically eliminate all opposition via the path of murder. He declared war on Iran over a crappy border agreement he didnt like, and declared war on kuwait for god knows what reason.

He killed his own people for speaking out against him, he's played a hand in the deaths of over 50,000 people because of his insane actions. You have absolutely no ****ing clue about anything, you are THE most ignorant ****er on this board and although Im all for people voicing opinions, I like them backed on a firm basis. Your just spouting crap like a broken sewer. You should **** off and die of cancer, and also be banned from these boards.

Its been a long time since ive pulled the cancer insult, but im banking on the fact that absolutely nobody will support your protests due to the fact your a ****ing obvious moron. Rot in hell dickhead.

Bravo *Claps* Bravo...

This guy's completely accurate and completely right. 148 Convictions he's on trial for, but he killed thousands upon thousands of other innocent victims.

BestBet you are a nob head, and should be shot. Blame the entire village because of one man, or a handful of people, discracefull...

The 148 deaths are those that he is being put on trial for. The simple reason is this is the crime they knew they could get a conviction on, and that the death sentence would be awarded for it. Therefore they save time and money by not trying him for everything else.

If this is saving time I'd hate to think what the full thing would of been like =P lol. In any case, I'm curious whether the execution will be halted on the last minute.

I actually have a Kurdish friend (talk of multiculturalism) and her argument is that she would like to have had closure on the fact that this evil man was tried for all and every allegation (and preferably convicted). She believes that the only thing that seperates the likes of herself from the likes of Saddam is her ability to carry out the right thing regardless of how long it takes. Jumping the gun (whether murdering a village for a group of assassins or prematurely executing a man on trial fall safely into the same catergory) is a bad thing to do in many ways.

He used chemical weapons on the kurds IN HIS OWN COUNTRY, after it was taken over in a war. Thats similar to say, Tony Blair ordering for birmingham to be destroyed because someone took it in a war.

I know dispicable isn't it? I'm ardently against the death penelty, I don't think it solves anything (nor in some examples, prevents anything), but in the culture of the middle east, retribution often means "blood-money" or death. So I can't help but imagine the poor poeple who have suffered at the hands of this evil man would want him hanged a thousand times for each of his crimes. I believe that if I were them I would be very tempted to agree with them.

None of you actually seem to know any of the story behind this, and I dont understand how anyone can stand up for him in anyway. Everything that happened in this war was inevitable anyway. Once saddam died, there would have been a power struggle between those who would have wanted the power. The result would have been civil war anyway, with the probable outcome being another dictator.

I know your post wasn't directed at my post in any specific way, but I'd just like to clarify that I'd hate for anyone to think I am "standing" up for Saddam. I hate him, even if hasn't directly affected me. The point is that consistancy has to be shown in the policies we stand for - like the freedoms we enjoy but also the protections. Today we might be able to say it is excusable for such an "evil" person, but tomorrow we'll be seeing more Guantanamo Bay detainments' or ever more invasive laws in the name of "just prosecution".

the death penalty is the only thing they can do to get retribution of anykind. What good would it be to jail him? If he is jailed then its only a matter of time before a rebel force manages to free him. Obviously he can never return to any kind of power, but he could probably get away a free man.

Death = cant get away. I hope the rope is too short, and not too long.

If he's going to be put in prison for life, I'd hope it'd be one of those Egyptian (or american anology, mexican) prisons, because he'll probably get top class treatment with the current UK prison system, only a hairwidth shorter than his old palace =P lol

I guess some crimes are absolute and deserve absolute punishments. For argument's sake, here's the second highest rated comment on the BBC forum, which suprisingly is usually very conservative:

Let me get this straight!
Most people never heard of Saddam Hussein before Bush senior invaded Iraq.
We invaded his country twice, accused him of having weapons of mass destruction, accused him of being linked to 9/11,killed most of his family and now we're sentencing him to death?I don't support Hussein at all, but to be sentenced to death is a bit over the top.
Why didn't they sentence Harry S. Truman when he incinerated Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
Why was Pinochet so protected in England?

Alex Gache, Netherlands

He sums up some of the "so then" points.

ps - actually alex gache's comments seem very cynical now that I think about it, but I hope most people get the point.

I think ill pick this guy's comments apart peice by peice incase anyone on here thinks of agreeing with him.

"most people nenver heard of saddamn hussein" - well these people are ****ing ignorant, uneducated and obviously weren't up with current events. I knew who saddam was LONG before of this. Considering the first gulf war began in 1992, theyve had 14 years to know who he is.

"We invaded his country twice" - now this is a ****ing awesome comment. We did invade his country twice, possibly because were *******s, OR maybe it was because he declared war on Kuwait over **** all.

"accused him of having WMD" - this may have been a mistake, but I for one dont care one bit. The fact was, we couldn't take the risk. The guy is a ****ing maniac. He used chemical warfare on his own people, is that the sort of person they want to risk having a nuke?

"Killed most of his family" - you mean the maniac family that supported his murdering dictatorship, and enjoyed the bloodshed? Im sure the fact they they attended public hangings (which were usually done before events like football matches etc) as royalty was out of duty.... not enjoyement.

"Why didn't they sentence Harry S. Truman when he incinerated Hiroshima and Nagasaki?" - Japan delcared war on America. Thats tough ****.

i didnt read all the post in this thread, but i am sry to tell u, all the sadam lovers, that sadam is just a reguler dictator terrorist.
do u even hear urself? he killed 148 ppls, just think of ur family and friends getting killed because someone decided they attempted to kill him..
he is just a power abuser that got in his head that he is god and he can do whatever he want.
the world will be a better place without him.
it doesnt metter what ppls did to him be4, a normal man wouldnt do what he did no metter what.
