With renting a dedi box do i need to explain what im doing with it? Can they cancel it if they find out im running a private server?

Do they check whats running on box's?

So how do you run yours on a box they check? If they know its illegal why dont the people hosting your server shut it down?

Chances of them taking time to really check what you'r running and if its legal or not legal is low.

Plus theres nothing much to loose if they canceled your hosting, inless you paid for a full year at once, most you could loose is £69 i guess, and thats just a bump on the head to tell you to be more cautious of who you use next time.

Where is that box hosted?

Generally, without your password they cant actually see whats on the box, they can just monitor the traffic.

You could build a cheap A64 1GB server for under $350 bucks US taxed and shipped, not sure how much it would cost in the UK. Best bet is to just build your own server and host it yourself.

Building your own server and providing dedicated internet for it for 12 months (30 pounds a month?) would cost the same as about 7 months of dedicated hosting. Sure, you wouldn't have the super fast speeds of dedicated, but with decent internet unless you plan on 100+ players you should be fine. Assuming UK service providers don't have bandwidth caps.

Cos unlimited doesn't exist. Dedi providers *are* "proper companies" thats their speciality

also all depends on area's.

Because i dont live in a major city, or actualy in the middle of the city at all, (outside in a small village) Means that im actualy locked to 2mb internet with 256k/b upload as they probebly wont upgrade my lines until most populated places are done.

hell i'd love to just get 8mb at the mo, and my ISP does offer it for the price im paying, just i can't see them updating my lines anytime soon.
