Disabling port's

Hello.

Well after reading the thread about the port 6000 exploit on mir2 servers... I started thinkin how to disable port 6000 as my m8 needs to do that.. So well looked thru the windows xp firewall settings and only cud find a place wer to enable a port. So is ther ne firewall that is actuly ne good and has the ability to disable ports? wud b even nicer if it wud be just a basic prog that wud only disable the port 6000 as i like the windows firewall and i dont want/need nethin more than that lol so if anyone could please help me out wud b very greatfull

The firewall should automatically disable everything you don't specifically enable.

well apparently zone alarm doesnt i think as ther was a problem that a player suddenly gained gm powers and i think its most likely by the port 6000 bug but well thers always a chance that the chinese come up wiw a new exploit lol

Zonealarm and Windows XP Firewalls methods of dealing with programs are different.

WinXP blocks all ports unless instructed to open certain ones. While Zonealarm will quite happily open all ports an application uses when you click the little 'Allow' button. In ZA, you need to set specific rules to stop traffic from individual ports... alternatively just turn on the Win firewall.
