For movies and applications, spend a quid and use usenet or stick to torrents..
For music, I highly, highly recommend SoulSeek. Takes a bit more brains to use than others like limewire and eMule/eDonkey, but it's much better, can find much rarer songs, can download full albums or just individual songs, no spy/ad/malware and doesn't hog resources.
