Hi everyone, I'm very new to these forums and I could use a little help, I've read all of the stickies but a lot of it is very confusing, and doesn't state a lot of things.

I'm looking to run a server off of a computer at work, these computers are on ALL the time with a fast internet connection and external PSUs to decrease heat.

Now, problem is, the RAM is very low. We can just about run Unreal Tournament here. But I'm not interested in playing a server here, i'm interested in running a server off my computer, this will be 24/7 as I can just lock windows and never shut down.

Now, this computer is on Windows 2000, and I want basic un-modded files.. English would help, but if errors and messages are chinese - I guess that's standard.

I'd like to know if the basic files I'm downloading are correct, and if they will work with Windows 2000, I don't want some idiot telling me ' u Iz wr0ngzors 4 that 1', or anything - no offence. :P

Taking a look at this thread : 'http://www.lomcn.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=29587'
I'm guessing I have to download 'Lozmuir 1.9 emu Files' and the 'Normal 1.9 emu Client' I know the basic setup of the database etc, as I've done this before with 1.4 files, but they were buggered as the floor messed up.

Could someone correct me if I'm wrong?

Cheers,
Tharivol.

If you want the most updated skills, monster attacks etc. then you should use ledu client. You are in the correct direction right now, and AFAIK. the files work with every version of windows wich is over 98 (i beleive someone had problems running the files on 95) so that should be no problem to you. Seeing as you are NOT one of the annoying type of newbies who come here asking "plz gime files i want cool server to b gm on plz plz", you could add me to MSN ([email protected]) and i will help you out as much as i can.

About the RAM problem, how much do you have right now?

The setup you have will most likely not be suitable for running the files effectively. The MirServer requires a lot of RAM to run without lag, especially the version you have stated (1.9). I'd say around 300MB free (not doing anything else) to run the server with a few spawns. Bare in mind though that the basic 1.9 files have quite a few maps and also quite a few spawns - meaning you will prolly need more memory to handle it. Perhaps consider reducing the number of spawns, or reverting to an older version.

Finally have you considered where you will be accessing the server from, does you internet connection allow incoming connections from those places and can they be routed correctly?

All good points. At the moment I'm keeping the server private (When I do figure out how to set it up.) until I can buy some more RAM and stick it in this computer. As for connections I've seen no evidence of any kind of firewall etc (We're aloud to play net games and 'download' ... legal files here. :) ). So it should be okay. The only problem I'm having at the moment is that the only 1.9 setup guide on these forums mentions a 3in1 programme, which Gimp told me to use the new M2serv in replace of.
This has left me with no guide telling me what to do with the new m2serv - rather than the 3in1 programme. Sorry if that was a bit confusing!
