Hi there. As you've probably gathered by now, I'm not associated with any particular server (yet). The scripts and ideas I post are all free for the taking - and if anyone wants me to work more closely with their server you only have to ask.
I'm wondering if, and if not, why not, anyone's done a FF style storyline for Mir on their servers. Here's a little concept demo of how to achieve some cinematic style to it:
Characters would be massively important. Having NPCs would just be nothing like enough, especially if they were static. Here's an example of having some very-very dynamic characters.
Let's say I had a character called Malicius, who across the storyline rises to power in Bichon as a general (storyline taken from my other thread about permenant events) and then goes mad with the power and looks to dark arts +necromancy etc etc. Turns into an enemy.
For something like that - or almost anything good - you can't have just an NPC standing there some place. So here's how to do it: (I'm assuming we can get a mob skin as a static NPC skin?)
We first meet him in Bichon Wall
In the BW palace. He gives characters quests etc, a lot of recurring quests early on. At this point in the quest chain/storyline, he goes...
We do this, quite simply, by using a cloned version of BW palace map. When walking into BW palace a script triggers that quite simply teles you to the cloned version (containing the NPC) if you've not got past that point yet. If you have passed that point, you just go into normal BW palace.
THIS CAN BE USED IN MANY DIFFERENT PLACES ETC.
Later... we see a cutscene of our old friend...
Mad with power, we see Malicius killing some people in a Mud Wall shop. He's become a dictator... he has to be stopped. We see him kill some people, then we talk, and then the inevitable fight follows.
How to do this:
- The MW shop again has to be a special cloned map using the technique mentioned above.
- Upon entering, a script spawns 3 npc skinned mobs (they are weak, but are mobs.) A Malicius spawns (Say Malicius04... but appears as Malicius) that's got his 'type' set to a guard. So what we appear to see is him slaughter some people.
- After killing the people #SAY conversation carries on happening, without an actual NPC there, just the illusion of Malicius. (The guard standing in the middle of the room.)
- Then when the talk's all done, Malicius04 despawns and a Malicius with just mob properties appears - fight follows.
- Killing mob launches mapquest, we see Malicius scream he's not beaten yet... quest goes on.
You could actually make a very good go at a graphical FF stle storyine just by being resourceful.
Any feedback?
