For people thinking about putting a server online

I read it every day - another server (any) goes online when its not ready for the public in any shape or form, lasts a few weeks then its dead.....People are sick to the back teeth of this, so here are some things to think about before you start posting about yet another Server for people to play on:

1. Make sure you know what you are doing, the files work, the game can be accessed online, the forum set up and a place for people to get the client / Updates..

2. Running a Online Server requires a machine (at least one) be left on 24/7 - this means it gonna make some sort of noise 24/7 as well (unless you have a whisper quiet one or store it in the loft or something).

3. The line you use for the server will have limits - such as 256K upload - meaning all those things you used to use your line for is now offlimits such as Video Chat, Voice chat, downloading Porn, Playing games online and so forth...Best way is to get a seperate line for the server.

4. Do people really need yet another MIR2 or MIR3 Server online? Ask yourself why is your different. Will it matter to you when only 2-3 are online on some days, will this spell the end for the server?

5. Forums - this will be flooded to death with people who:
* Have problems connecting
* Have trouble finding the files
* Have ingame problems
* Complain about the drops
* Complain about the Exp
* Post bugs you would not have found

6. In game as GM you will constatly be PM'd from people asking all sort of questions such as "Can your Tele me to ..." or "Can you give me ..." and so forth.

After taking all that and more in - if your still happy that your server is the best then good on you and hope that it lasts for some time but people im sure by now are just a tad sick of joining a server, downloading all the patches etc, playing for so long and then the server goes down as you the host cannot be arsed any more because of some problem or another..

Im sure this has been posted about before but the posts in the various sections tell me people are really not getting it, they install MIR2, get it online while still testing it and then there mother tells them they cannot have that running all the time - server dies....

yeah i do agreee wit hthat statement people do tend to rush servers online i.e atm nemesis for one is still inbeta testing and i think the gms are gonna end up shutting serer down soon as they are probably getting sick of people complaining theyhavent got this right havent got that right imo and there afew other servers i tried that have noone on lag like a ***** and generally unplayable

You forgot step 1. Check LOMCN regularly for updates, guides and advice

Seriously, my advice if you want to host a server. Talk to GM's, Host's and other members of existing server teams. I don't believe they'd try to put you off, or fear any competition. But they can tell you what to expect, what kind of problems are likely to occur etc.

I've tried my hand at GM'ing, not hosting (yet). Even that isn't the supreme goal some think it is. Being a GM can be a very stressful task.

Finally, remember the advice we're all given throughout our lives... If In Doubt, Ask.

Hum, ragezone v2, the server i hosted a few years ago was great till the cheats started to appear, i kind miss Mir2 i wouldn't mind hosting a mir2 server 24/7 together with the current RageZone Mir3 server but....

wots the best set of files to use?
are the new files working?
can ppl cheat?

The only reason i ask this is coz i been away from mir2 for a long time and i have no idea of wich versions have been released.
If any1 wants to get me working files to host ill b glad to host them has long the cheats aren't there!

Well John u say RZ but the best server u ever have hosted is without an doubd for me the Fantasy EI server Proberly one of the longest mir 2server arround is Judgement i geus tru it is down atm coz of the host having some problems but it will be back soon proberly the longest mir II server around but most likeley one of the few

I'm sure Project69 has been online more often that Judgement, even if Judgement has been around longer.

it pisses me off coz im runnin a very healthy server altho its only 1.4 but ppl are very happy!

i thought that most of the p servers i tried were about as fun as cuttin my balls off
and CBA with playin them so i started my own! not to be something different just
a nice ditto of mir 2 and add some extras to make it better.

im workin on the 1.9 but offline! and i will let all the ppl on my server know when its done!

BTW i have to say i love that speech! N1!
