athlon xp 3000+
768mb RAM
80gb HDD
256mb radeon 9250
dvd drive

Not being funny, but £400 is way, way to much for that system.
I can build a half decent 64bit tower for less than that. For that price, no were near enough ram or hard drive space!

I mean, when i upgrade im gonna be selling my PC for like £250-300 max (which i originally thought was too much), and my spec is as follows.

Athlon XP 2600 (barton)
1GB DDR333
Gigabyte GA-7N400 Nforce Pro 2
360GB hard disk space (2x160GB & 1x40GB)
Soundblaster Live 1024
Gigabyte 3D Rocket Cooler
Radeon 9600 Pro 128mb limited edition
LG 8x DVD + & - RW
Sony 16x DVD-Rom
16 case fans in total i think.

I think realisticly you are gonna be looking at offers of £200-£300 max. Unless you find somebody on ebay who isnt too clued up. I doubt anyone on here would pay £400+ for a machine with only 768MB ram and 80GB disk space. My MP3 collection wouldnt even fit on that drive alone :)

Sorry if it looks like im putting a downer on it, thats just my opinion.

[EDIT]
Just speced this quickly, look at how much more disk space, ram etc. And its less than you want 'AT LEAST'
AMD Sempron 64 3000+ Socket754 , Palermo Core, 1.8GHz , 128KB Cache, Retail
Gigabyte GA- K8NE - S754 nF4 PCI-E DualDDR400 USB2 4xSATA Raid 8CHAudio
2x512Mb PC2700 (PC333) DDR Memory (Major) Retail
128MB Gigabyte 6600 Mem 350 MHz ,GPU 300 MHz ,8 Pipes, D-Sub , DVI-I , S-Video/TV Out
Pioneer DVR-110D Ivory 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer DVD Writer (Reduced Length) OEM
LG 16x Ivory DVD-ROM + 52x CD-ROM IDE
300 GB Maxtor DiamondMax 10 , IDE (PATA) , 7200 rpm , 16MB Cache,

TOTAL £397.62

If you buy a computer in parts which has the same specs as a Dell PC, it saves you a ton.

My computer cost ~£500 to build, Dell sell a PC with same specs, except less HD space, for around £850.

Point proven?

Kud is bound to find someone that will pay £400 for it if people pay a ton for a Dell PC.

A Dell PC with an AMD Athlon Processor? I dont think so. Which means its been upgraded and therefore now is pretty much a custom built PC in a Dell case! The fact it only has an 80GB hard disk is still a sticking point. Thats no were near enough storage nowadays. I wouldnt even consider spec'ing a PC with less than 160GB unless the person said they only wanted it for word processing. Regardless of whether its a Dell or not, if the insides arnt up to scratch, then it aint worth it!

Straight off the Dell site, a PC that is 'at worst' an equal to his spec and is only £599 with a monitor. And is brand new. He wants £400 AT LEAST, which suggests to mean hes looking at closer to £500 MAX which is a joke imo. Why pay £400+ for a second hand Dell when a shiney new one is only a couple of hundred more.

[SPEC]
Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 630 with HT Technology (3.00 GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 800MHz FSB)
128MB PCI-ExpressT ATI RadeonT X300 Hypermemory
1GB DDR2-533MHz Dual Channel SDRAM
160GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
17" Analogue Flat Panel Monitor (17.0" v.i.s)
Card Reader
DVD & CDRW Combo
[END SPEC]

Sorry, im just being practical, hes looking for way too much for that machine.

Paul

Im not trying to put a downer on things mate.... but that expectation is too much! You would be much better selling that PC on ebay as you are more likely to get someody who isnt totaly clued up and will maybe pay £400+ for that PC.

However, realisticly you should be looking for around £200-£300 for it, so dont take less than that. However, if you can get £400 or above great for you, I am just saying maybe your expectations are too high, which in turn may make ppl decide not to even bother offering anything as they dont beleive you will even consider it as you stated '£400 AT LEAST' in one of your previous posts.

Put it on ebay for £100 starting bid, a reserve of £200 (which is the least its worth) and maybe a buy now of £250-£350 region if you like and if your worried about it not selling, also state 'its listed elsewere' so you can legally pull the auction if the bids are not to your liking. Up the postage a bit more than what it actually would cost so you make a few extra quid! Job done... :)

THAT in my opinion is the only way you are gonne get anywere near what you are looking for!

Hope that helps rather than putting a downer on it!

thanks alot mate, the postage is also a major concern of mine, i would be sticking it on a courier, and im guessing that couriers do not come cheap anyway.

i will consider putting it on Ebay, (people here know prices of computers) hopefully i will find someone on there who knows less about pricing ;)

nice advice, great help, will look into ebaying it later when im back from school

If the PC is going with a monitor then you have a bit of a problem with courier prices. If its just the tower etc. you may get away with about £20, which is about what most people on ebay send towers out for. Standard parcels on royal mail for upto 20KG is £11.65, so work on that basis. Couriers you could be looking at around £30ish, but shop around first and find the best deal you can, then add a few quid if the price is not too steep.

I think you may be ok!

Now now :)
Urbans knowledge is far in advance of mine. Although I do profess to be very knowledgable, he could beat me in an out and out fight in computer talk, as he has done previously. Due to my age and ignorance that somebody so much younger than myself could know more than me, ended up with me having my a**e being handed to me on a plate :/

And, to be honest, Urbans advice has helped me no-end with regards to upgrade of high spec machines for myself and people im doing work for, an area which im a bit rusty in since having left the IT field of work 2 years ago.
