Guitar tabs are usually best if you don't know how to read music.

www.mxtabs.net - has thousands.

As for a first guitar not too sure whats best so can't really give you any advice there.

except that it hasn't got any tabs since they were made illegal a few months ago.

just do what everyone else does and get a fender squire

I once had the motivation to knob about with a guitar, but every time atom came across for a holiday he would proceed in busting every single string on the ****ing thing.

So i kinda got bored.

The sheet music industry decided they needed more money

y'know, as opposed to actually promoting the learning and playing of music.

hmm first id say you'd need to learn how to read tab, which is pretty simple if you dont know it already..

then id download a program called 'Guitar Pro 5' its really helpful because it can actually play the tab for you and theres also a tuner :P

heres a quick guide to reading tab...

basictab.gif

A tab staff for guitar has 6 horizontal lines, each one representing a string of the instrument. The bottom line of the staff represents your lowest "E" string (thickest), the second line from the bottom represents your "A" string (the thinest),

Notice that there are numbers located smack dab in the middle of the lines (aka strings). The numbers simply represent the fret the tab is telling you to play. For example, in the illustration above, the tab is telling you to play the third string (third line) seventh fret.

Note: When the number "0" is used in tablature, this indicates that the open string should be played.

Here an example tab :P

SSoul's post is the reason why people should just learn to read real music. Look at all those acronyms, it's not simpler at all. Just less professional.

OMG your me.

Just a few years behind.

I was the same (still am but I now have a guitar)

Someone said to get a simple guitar so I went with the fender squire.

I've wanted to learn for ages, even took a few lessons but it's hard when you got teachers up your ass about coursework so I stopped. I can play a LITTLE, like the start of Enter Sandman by Metallica (Which is easy).

I started looking at tab websites the other day and tried to play one but I jumped in too deep, gunna need to learn how to read them first, as soon as I get the patience to read it.

P.S - Don't learn to play before me or I keel you. Lel.

Being that I can infact play guitar, and pretty decent too, For learning, you need to learn 7 basic chords before doing anything else...

www.cyberfret.com is a good start...

http://www.cyberfret.com/chords/beginning-7/index.php

Note... Buy a tuner, dont use drop D tuning to learn and dont give up, you wont be great in a day, you wont be great for year.. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE.... Also, make sure you hold the pic right :)

Recommended kit: http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/91386

It has the guitar, mini amp, tuner and a carry case.. all you need, oh and a pick :) REMEMBER, I CAN PLAY GUITAR.. so learn the 7 BASIC CHORDS.......................

Well, ive seen all those colours on that guitar, my cousin actually has the black version, my Yamaha Pacifica is blue and its similar style, the red looked horrid so I recommend the blue, unless your slightly goth and go with black.

Dont bother with tab, it sucks, its like playing bass on an electric, for people not intelligent enough to learn chord, just learn chord, ive been playing for a year now, know alot of chords and some great songs to.
