Yup totally agree - spoils it that it just stops then onto a darker , should make it contrast into it and fade.

layer distortions
a little tip for u to go from
make clouds, rearange clouds, invert the layer.. change the img colours
then remake a new layer, clouds, say use um... a blur, and change the layer properties to say colour dodge and so forth..
mix around like this, u get similar affects.
the line thing is done with the line tool, just make a stroke gasian blur it or so and use a luminancy or summit and go from there.
