So I've seen this mentioned a few times now, here on the forums and in game.

Could someone explain to me how this works, or how we think it works?

I'm reading it as I know this guy drops this @ 1/1000 I kill 1000 of them I'm guaranteed at least one of these items once? Is this correct?

Drops
  • When you kill a monster the items/gold that it drops will only be visible/obtainable to you, (even if you change character).
  • If you are in a group, each member will get their own drop rate.
  • Guaranteed Drops
    1. Designed to help those who get unlucky consistently.
    2. If there is a 1 out of 100 chance to get an item you will be guaranteed to get this item dropped by at most the 100th kill.
    3. Having an item dropped (guaranteed or normally) will NOT impact any of your future chances.
    4. Example: If you get this 1 out of 100 chance item on the first kill, You will be guaranteed to get your second item by at most the 200th kill
    5. Guaranteed drops are per item (No other item effect another), Your 'drop progress' is shared across all of your characters.

Hope this helps.

2 more questions.

1. Is guaranteed drops affected by your drop chance %, if a mob has 1/100 chance and i have 100% drop buff, will it be 1/50?
2. If an item drops from both a mob and boss, say 1/100 from a mob and 1/10 from a boss, if i kill 50 mobs and 5 bosses will this trigger the guaranteed drop, do different mobs with shared item drop rate stack?

few more for absolute clarity:

If im in a group is my contribution towards guaranteed drop then divided by the number of group members? if 1/100 drop chance when killing boss and theres 2 people in the group do i only get 0.5 of a point per kill?

Lastly, putting guaranteed drops to one side for a second, when killing a boss in a group, are drop chances based on each party members individual RNG or does the group RNG combine and a random member receives the item, for example in a group of 10 would it be possible (albeit extrememly unlikely) for every member to receive a rare item such as feral helm on the one kill?

I don't believe theirs a "never chance to drop" its coded to bring down the drop rate each time.

So if Vigour Ring is 1/1000 from BroodMother. Killing BroodMother would change the drop to 1/999.

Would need Jamie to confirm but I believe once dropped it then adds the remaining drop chance to your next drop. So for instance if your item dropped when your chance was 1/765, your next drop chance would be 1/1765 again you're subject to the RNG gods and may get the drop first time may have to kill the entire kill counter to get it to drop. This way eventually you would get everything drop, but this is again all relevant to how many kills are required, is it monster, cave, map/floor specific

Really not lol.

The drop rate does not ever change, just like on any other server.

If the drop rate is 1/1000, it will forever be 1/1000...

However, IF you killed 1000 mobs, without a drop....it will drop for you....that is literally it lol, it's not that difficult to understand.

If you get a drop pretty early (Let's say you're a lucky fker, and get it after 5 kills)....you're drop guarantee would be at 2000 Kills, instead of 1000...because the system has registered that you have received the first drop already. So unless you're lucky again (Your drop chance is still 1/1000), you won't see another drop until you hit 2000 kills.

Or other explanations i've seen. Upon hitting 100% drop rate, you get a drop (Under the assumption you have not had 1 drop already).

Each drop you receive, puts back your guaranteed drop by 100% of the drop rate (200%/300% etc).

Now maths has never been my strong point, which is weird considering my job. However what's the difference between what you've wrote and what I've wrote?

The base drop rate always stays the same, but your personal drop rate changes on every kill.

With your hypothesis on killing 1000 mobs with a 1/1000 drop chance, by the 500th mob your desired item would be at 1/500 drop chance - this is incorrect.

What pottsy has said that by the 500th mob is that your drop chance is still 1/1000 - correct.

When you kill the 1000th mob the item drops 1/1

Thank you :) makes perfect sense when explained like this.

This is how I see it.
You get a chance of the drop 1/1000
RNG work as normal, you can get the item drop anytime from 1 to 999 of the mobs.
If no drop by the time you hit the 1000 mark, item will drop.

Once item drops, your guarantee drop is reset.
So you get the item on the 584th mob, you are then rolled back and will be your guaranteed drop will be at the next 1000th kill - and the RNG goes back to working as normal.

So let's say Frost Dungeon mobs have a 1/150k to drop each of the 9 accessories they can drop, if by the 150 thousandth kill you've not had any of them, that one mob will drop all 9?

Assuming each item has a counter separate from the drop rate and once you hit the cap on it then yes. I've seen pictures on here where people have hunted RMV for Vigor set and had 2 or even all 3 pieces drop from the same monster because they have hit the cap.

I've had about 6 33 armours drop from a mob in BP, all different variants. SHowing that the drop system works, I obviously didn't get any of these armours drop within the drop rate, so the guaranteed drop kicked in.

I've had it happen in JP, killed the sub and got 4 level 44 armours. Must have triggered the drop :)

It's a good system, it means eventually if you hunt it long enough you'll be rewarded.
